Ideal for short stay

Ideally located right next to a metro station and a few minutes' pleasant walk from the heart of downtown, the Sofitel is comfortable and effortless. There is a friendly local cafe right next door selling good coffee, pastries and orange juice where you can rub shoulders with locals standing at the bar and having their morning bica of strong expresso - so we didn't do breakfast at the hotel. The doorman will park your car for you for no extra charge (tips up to you). Ideal base for two or three nights in the city and not cheap but decent value.

Unique Quality: Excellent location, just off the main tourist areas of Baixa and Barrio Alto but close enough to walk easily to them.

a truly enjoyable stay

The hotel fully deserves its 4 stars. The atmosphere of the lobby and the rooms resembles 'good, old' colonial times. The service is also really top notch.

Sofitel - Ave Liberdade

The hotel is a very nice 4* hotel, located next to subway on Ave Liberdade and very convenient everywhere. The bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is very nice. It is also very quiet. The only problem is lack of sufficient space to put clothes and belongings. Parking is E15. Desk personnel speaks excellent English and is very helpful. There is a free computer for internet or office work downstairs.

More about Sofitel Lisboa Liberdade

Superb Service and Value for Money

by TripAdvisor Member CanadianPrague

We stayed for a long weekend break to Lisbon at the Sofitel from 28 to 31 December 2006. Although Canadian, I frequently travel for business across Europe. The Sofitel in Lisbon by far had some of the best customer service I have experienced across the continent. The reception staff attentive/friendly and the concierge was incredible! Over three nights, he provided outstanding recommendations on restaurants, bars and clubs which suit our age group (25-35 yrs) and interests. MAde our stay even better. During this period, the hotel was completely booked and even still, the staff professionally managed to greet us by surname.

The hotel is well located with a short uphill walk to Bairro Alto - and a 15-20 minute walk to the river.

The hotel room was nicely decorated. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have experienced (most having been at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver - and at Le Suite Hotel in London).

Service here is truly five star - one set back being the lack of a health spa and a fairly basic fitness facility. Again, prior to arriving, I rang the hotel and they recommended a nice spa/massage facilty (Le Spa).

We witnessed upon our departure (0930) an American man harrass one of several staff members about wanting to check-into a room NOW. It was impressive how tolerant and professional they maintained in the face of beligerance and obscenities.

If the Sofitel Lisboa is truly a hidden gem, it won't be for too much longer. Highly recommended!

Sofitel fits the bill!

by TripAdvisor Member chrispt

My wife and I have just returned after spending three nights at the Sofitel and only have good things to say about this excellent hotel. I have stayed here twice previously on business, mainly due to its prime location, which is ideal for discovering this great city. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from bars, shops, restaurants and some of the main toursit attractions. The room was perfectly adequate, with all the facilities you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The best bit though was definitley the bed, which was incredibly comfortable! The bar was very comfortable and the perfect place to relax late in the evening after a hard day's sightseeing! The staff were polite, friendly, helpful and unfussy. We didn't have breakfast included, however probably a tip worth mentioning - we walked 100 yards down the street and in the local cafes had coffee and some stunning pastries for less than €10 between us as opposed to paying €17 each for the hotel breakfast. Another tip: try Sanchos restaurant, literally 5 minutes from the hotel - superb fish and friendly service. I can't recommend the hotel highly enough.

Outstanding Staff

by TripAdvisor Member terrimm

Excellent hotel exactly as noted on earlier reviews, but I wanted to further mention the superb staff: dependable, efficient, friendly - the best we have experienced in any hotel. A special note regarding restaurant Sancho a couple blocks up around the corner - don't miss it! Wonderful food, service, and ambience!

Great value, good location

by TripAdvisor Member jogoderic1

We stayed for 4 nights in November, during our first trip to Lisbon. The hotel is within walking distance to the Barrio Alto and Downtown Lisbon, and the metro stop is right outside the front door. The room was extremely quiet, and the beds very comfortable. Unfortunately, breakfast was not included in our rate and we thought the extra cost of 17 euro/person was a bit steep. The staff was incredibly helpful, and even worked with us to get our wireless going in the middle of the night. Lisbon itself is a little tired and worn, but the hotel was a bright spot.

Great! Exactly what you expect!

by TripAdvisor Member lawmin

I read up on a lot of the hotels in the Lisbon area and thought this looked the best: the best value for money and that's exactly what it was. All the reviewers talked about the great location, excellent staff and cleanliness and they were all right. It's a 5 minute walk from the absolute center of the city. The staff were extremely helpful and helped us with a reservation for a dinner with Fado. We didn't try the hotel breakfast since there are so many great little cafes in the area. If I was forced to say one negative thing it would be that their tv/movie selection is not so great for English viewers. Otherwise perfect for the money!
