We stayed here on a visit to Lisbon back in 1993 and were very happy with it, so I was pleased when walking past the end of the Rua da Gloria recently that it still appeared to be going strong. Obviously I can’t recommend it with the same conviction as if I’d stayed there more recently but it would certainly be worth checking out. The location is really excellent, just a few (steep) steps from the Praça dos Restauradores, and prices seem reasonable still. It isn’t a fancy place but was pleasant enough to satisfy our older travelling companions (my mother in law and her sister). A continental breakfast is included, which when we stayed there was served in the wood-panelled bar – cosy but a bit of a dark spot in which to start your day in this sunny city.
Directions: Follow the steep road that carries the Gloria funicular up to the Barrio Alto and you will see the Rua Gloria on your right near the tram stop.
This is just a basic hotel: the rooms are pretty old but comfortable and spacious; breakfast is just basic and the public spaces were created long ag and you can see it.
But there is a huge PLUS: the location! It's just in front of the Elevador da Gloria, few minutes from Bairro Alto, just behind the corner of Praça dos Restauradores and 5 minutes walk away from Baixa, Rossio, Chiado. You're really in the heart of the city and the hotel is still quiet and you can sleep without unwanted noise coming from outside
Unique Quality: Great location, really in the heart of the city
Directions: Just opposite the lower stop of Elevador da Gloria
We stayed at Hotel Suico Atlantico, a 2* hotel. Inset, a view from the balcony of our room.
PTE 12,000 per night for a room with twin beds, own hot shower including breakfast for 2 pax.
Unique Quality: Has a lift and clean rooms. The staff was very helpful not only during our stay but even while making inquiries and reservations via email.
Directions: Conveniently located just steps away from Plaza Restauradores- Bus Stop & Metro Station, Turismo Office, Elevador da Gloria, Rossio train station, and city center.
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Lisbon in July. We are thinking of staying at Hotel Suico Atlantico, based on reviews I read at www.eurocheapo.com.

thanks for the quick replly!
Some years ago when I still worked for the "deceased" airline Swissair, we frequently booked rooms at this hotel and the comments on it were very positive. I believe it kept the same quality over the years. The location is very good, steps from Restauradores Square, beginning of Avenida da Liberdade. Tram Elevador da Gloria at the door, leading to Bairro Alto (take care at night if you go to Bairro Alto via the tram steps, sometimes you may come across pick pockets)
