Turim Iberia Hotel

Cheap for a reason

I chose to stay at the Turim Iberia because I couldn't get the Turim Europa for the nights I had selected. The hotel seemed to be pretty nice, just a bit farther from the centre than the Europa. It also, apparently, was an aparthotel, which does, of course, have certain advantages. Upon arrival, however, I quickly learned why this hotel had rooms and was even cheaper than the Europa. First, aparthotels are not the same as hotels. They should have things like basic amenities for preparing food and more space. The Turim Iberia didn't even have drawers in the room, let alone a space for preparing food. The floors were badly in need of refinishing and someone's hair was on the bed and in the sink (I know it wasn't mine because it was about 8 times as long as my hair). The water seemed to take forever to heat up and then scalded you, no matter how low on the scale you turned the dial. The hotel staff were nice but spoke poor English and the maid was rather fond of talking loudly on her cell phone in the hallways. The quality and price seem to attract a clientele that is in Lisbon to party, so the hotel can be rather loud until 2 or 3 am (no, it wasn't the maid this time). In all, the hotel is decent if you're hard pressed to find somewhere to stay, but in truth there are so many other good, affordable places to stay in Lisbon that you are better placed to look elsewhere.

Unique Quality: Nothing at the hotel is included. The internet in the "business centre" is ridiculously exorbitant at 10 euro an hour. This despite the fact that the computers are old and slow. Breakfast, which is included in the price at the Europa, is 7 euro here - a price that ensures you a feast at any one of the city's cafés (better to go to Versailles a few blocks south on Avenida da Republica).
