I went on pilgrimmage to Fatima in 2004 with a friend. Just by chance we chose to stay at the Domus Pacis- what a great choice! The rooms are well-appointed, clean, and not too distracting. The view of the Basillica - especially at night- was breath-taking! Breakfast is European fare, served buffet style, and dinner was on par with a fine restaurant- the salmon was excellent- and very fair prices. I look forward to going back to Fatima and staying at the Domus Pacis!
Unique Quality: The food- especially dinner- was much better than expected from a retreat facility. The view of the Basilica- even though from behind- was beautiful...and very close- an easy walk. The best feature was the staff- excedlingly helpful and gracious.
Directions: Adjacent to Basilica grounds
The Domus Pacis is one of the most remembered and liked places of anyones visit here to Fatima. The Hotel or Guesthouse as some call it, is set for the people who come to Fatima to meditate and spend their prayerful time. The rooms are very nice, and the Reception area is very open so as not to get you congested upon arrival with a large group. The walk to the Basilica is just a few hundred feet , but if you are going to the main part of town it could be an uphill climb. There is a Byzantine Chapel here that is a MUST to see, and hopefully you can participate in the Ukrainian Divine Liturgy (Mass) while here. Overall I would recomend this as a Retreat to ones Faith.
Unique Quality: When looking up from the Capelina or Grotto Area, you will see to the right of the Fatima Basilica, an Onion Shaped Dome(I believe, blue in colour) with steps coming down to the road from the main enterance. At first you would think of it as a Russian or Orthadox Church, but upon arrival you will find out differant. There are Meeting Rooms to accomadate up to 150 people and more. The view from the Domus Pacis, overlooking the Town and Capelina is really nice. The Restaurant and Bar are excellent as well as the food. There is no swimming pool. The Gift Shop has just about everything you want.
Directions: Approx. 200 Ft. from the back side of the Basilica to the S.E.
