The location of the hotel is ideal: It is located on an island in the middle of the river which flows through the town! Cross the small bridge & the town center is right there! The rooms are quaint, and ours had a nice balcony & private bath with a television. There was a great breakfast as well.
The area in front of the hotel was basically a small park with large trees & the river on both sides. It felt as if we were guests in a rather large country house rather than in a hotel.
Directions: Located in the middle of Tomar along the river. When you see the old waterwheel, the hotel is right across the small bridge in the parklike area.
The Estalagem de Santa Iria was my first location on my roadtrip through Southern Portugal. I had booked it in advance but prolonged for a second night. The hotel is very nice and located directly at the old town. For visiting the sights in Tomar you will not need a car, except you want to see the aqueduct.
It is located on an island of the river Nabão. The island is a park, where people of Tomar come during noon to take a short rest. The rooms have a small balcony. Breakfast is served in a room with big windows towards the park.
This must be the nicest location for a hotel in the whole town. The hotel is situated on a park island on the Nabão river, just adjacent to the historic town center. During high season, it would certainly have exceeded our price range, but as we stayed there in April, the 70 EUR for a really large and nice double room incl. breakfast and parking seemed well worth the expense.
Directions: From the main street along the river, Rua do Marquês de Tomar, there is private bridge onto the island. Don't worry about the "No entry" sign for cars - hotel guests are exempted.
