Best hotel in Porto

by bean4bean4

Do you know Infante de sagres hotel? It looks good but no pool. Can you suggest a similar hotel in Porto with a pool? I'm looking for a hotel in the same category.

As for the Douro valley, what hotel (similar category) would you suggest and where?

Solar da Rede now Pousada de Mesão Frio with views over the vineyard and the river - with outdoor pool. Can this be the place ?
Not too far from the centre of Porto.

Boodmark - fyi finding a hotel in Porto has been a most frustrating experience. Most of the hotels seem to be a mile away from the river, other than Pestano in the Ribiera district, which is a bit expensive.

Yes in Porto area the best hotels are in Boavista district
and sometimes you have good deals there

Boavista is well served with city buses

in Douro area besides Mesão Frio you have also
Vintage House in Pinhão

and Régua Douro in Peso da Régua

Hi,

we stayed in Mesao Frio recently. It is located about 120 km east of Porto. If you decide to stay there, make sure you have a room with river view (more expensive!). The other rooms are small and a little overpriced. Dinner there was at 45 Euros p.p. including wine - we got better deals in the area. The place itself is magnificent with beautiful views and nice garden.
António also suggested the Hotel Regua Douro. Also here you have to make sure to have a room with river view. The others a facing the main road (noise). The hotel is "downtown" Regua and thus you have a variety of Restaurants around as well as direct access to boats and train.

Enjoy.

In Regua you also have a great view + great choice of tasty and not expensive food - just cross the bridge and is the yellow building in front.
Enjoy the Posta à Mirandesa or the Truta com presunto and the red wine "of the house" (usualy Caves de Santa Marta.

Travel Tips for Porto

Porto or Oporto

"I came here for the Port wine!"

Before coming to Oprto I went to the capital of Portugal Lisboa. I thought Porto was just about the port wine. Well its is...Wait ..There is more to it. The ribiera was beautiful and the people was friendly. Dont be afraid to roam around this very pretty city. I found that I really want to visit this place again. The port wine was great and so is the regular Douro red wines. Dont forget the Vinho Verde! In this page you will see what kind of other offers this city have to give!

"The Ribiera"

Oh my! This place is such a cool place to hang out. Bars, Girls, dinking and the view. Accross the river is the port wine caverns ...alot of it. Try Grahams I was impressed. Near this place is also the shopping district Via Santa Catarina. And the historic buildings and library. You will also enjoy the restaurants beside the river. Great food and service.

"Shopping District"

Via Santa Catarina . This street has lots of shops from shoes to coats and socks. It ws great style, quality and very inexpensive. I spent a whole day shopping.
There is also the North mall which is a cab ride away that too was great. I enjoyed shopping in Porto. It was cheaper here than most places that I have been to. You cant beat Great quality for the price!!!
