As far as I remmember there is no place for luggage at train station in Viana do Castelo (actually this is anoying all over the country...). It's maybe better to leave your luggage at the bus terminal.

Travel Tips for Viana do Castelo

by JoseMonteiro

You must go to Gerês, wich is not far from Viana do Castelo. It's a all the year green place, well preserved, with wild animals, watterfalls, natural pools, ... What loved most in Gerês was the camping place. It was located between two rivers in wich we could swimm and the sounds of nature.Early in the morning lots of birds sang all over the forest and at night it was time for the crickets to appear.Couldn't be better.

Ponte de Lima

by ncfg

Ponte de Lima is a small town in the picturesque province of Minho, 25 km east of Viana do Castelo. The motorway linking Porto to Spain passes nearby the town.

This beautiful small town is named after the bridge that crosses the River Lima (Ponte de Lima literally means Lima bridge).

In Ponte de Lima you will find great food and wine and amazing landscapes.
You can enjoy feasts fairs and festivals, the most important are The New Fair (Feiras Novas ) and the Vaca das Cordas tradition.

Praça da Republica

by ncfg

The historic centre of Viana do Castelo is quite beautiful, narrow streets and amazing monuments to admire.
Praça da Républica is the main square where you can find nice cafes, shops and beautiful buildings.

Leviathan's Viana do Castelo Page

I love Viana. It is the best city of Portugal to live or to stay on holidays. Unfortunately I wasn't in the south of the country, so I don't know much about it. But the north I know very well. If you have any questions ask me.

Viana and the north of Portugal is filled up with traditions. Sometimes I don't know how to manage to go to the half of all those entertainments.

I have a house here in Viana for spending holidays and many, many friends. You can visit it here: http://members.fortunecity.de/barro.
