Located in northern Portugal, not far from the Douro River valley of Port wine fame, I chose to use Lamego as a base from which we could explore this part of Portugal. We spent two nights here and, during day-trips, managed to see both the mountainous 'Geraz do Minho' region further north, as well as a quick tour of the vineyards of the Douro River area (my 'Pinhao' page). The main IP3 superhighway provides a good road connection to the south from here, toward Viseau, where we veered more westerly as we headed for the Atlantic coastline.
