Business people and football supporters!

Hotel AC Porto is a nice and modern 4-star business hotel, and I stayed there for two nights in October 2010. The room was huge and clean - and equipped with a comfortable bed with 3-4 pillows, a flat screen TV with many Portuguese and a few international channels, a good armchair, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, free mini-bar (with sodas, water, and a couple of beers), and a spacious and clean bathroom. No safety box in the room, but only at the reception. I usually never remember the phones in a hotel room, but here they were designed by Jacob Jensen, who is a quite famous Danish designer and known from – for example – many Bang & Olufsen products...

The breakfast buffet was included in the room price and served at the 1st floor restaurant. The buffet was huge and consisted of warm and cold dishes, yoghurts, cereals, fruits, and much more… The bar and lounge area was also located on the 1st floor, quite nice with free newspapers (mainly Portuguese) and a couple of TVs – but very, very slow service! However, in general the hotel staff was friendly, helpful, and competent.

The main purpose of my visit was the football match between Portugal and Denmark, and the location of Hotel AC Porto was perfect because the stadium (Estádio Do Dragão) was only 300-400 metres from the hotel. Fantastic… :) But if I was in Porto on holiday and sightseeing, I would never choose this hotel! It is located 4-5 kilometres from the city centre, in a neighbourhood where the football stadium and a shopping centre are the main attractions. And why ‘risk’ staying with maybe 100 football supporters if you’re not interested in football… Check the fixtures for FC Porto and the Portuguese national team before staying here…

I’m sure there are much cosier and cheaper hotels in the old part of Porto, but it is a great hotel for maybe business people and football supporters!
