Rede Expressos in Porto

by ptrim

Hi,

I have left this question a little late, I know.

Tomorrow I'll be going to Porto, arriving at the airport, then going to Rede Expressos.

Can anyone suggest the best way to get there?

Also, do they have a place to leave luggage for a few hours?

Obrigada,
Patti

The Rede Expressos bus terminal in Porto is in the city centre at Batalha, Rua de Alexandre Herculano. This is inconveniently situated several minutes walk uphill from the Sao Bento metro station.

The airport has its own metro station, which will get you into the city centre in about 30 minutes.

There are no left luggage facilities at the bus terminal. The only place I can think of with luggage storage is the main railway station, Porto Campanha. But this is about 2km from the Rede-Expressos bus terminal. You can get to Campanha direct on the metro from the airport.

It might be worth considering taking the metro from the airport to Campanha, leaving your bags there and then heading back into the city for your sight-seeing. Afterwards allow enough time to get back to Campanha, grab your luggage and take a taxi back to Batalha and Rede-Expressos.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I was actually able to leave my bags at Rede-Expresso when I arrived on Tuesday, in an office they have there. But when I went back on Saturday, the office was closed. So I walked to Sao Bento station and left them in a locker there.

Getting to Rede-Expressos from the airport was really easy. I took the metro directly to Bolhao station and walked five minutes from there.

I'll write this up as a tip so others can see it.

Happy travels!

Travel Tips for Porto

Sardinhas Assadas

by arasnosliw

Forget those stereotypes of BBQs with burgers and hotdogs!!

This is a favorite Portuguese specialty; sardinhas assadas or grilled sardines. In the summertime, the streets of Portugal are filled with the ever-so distinct smell of sardines being cooked on a charcoal grill. Love it or hate it, you can't avoid it. I couldn't stand the smell (let alone the taste) of sardines when I first arrived in Portugal. I think it's because my only experiences with sardines have been eating them in the wretched can form. That's the only way you can find them here in the US. After a few weeks, I was hooked to these fresh sardines. I'm never eating a canned one again!

historic arch

by arasnosliw

This arch in Ribeira has some part of historical significance, but I'm so tired and forgetful right now...my mind has lapsed and I cannot recall what exactly this is and Google is helping me out in no way.

If you want to help me out in recognizing this structure, it would be much appreciated by my jellified brain.

Caldo Verde

by evilprebil

This super is absolutely great. You wouldn't think that a cabbage soup could be this flavorful and unique...but it is! It has a dark green cabbage and chourico in it and is fabulous! I wish I could have made an entire meal out of this dish.
