Porto is the city of the famous Porto Wine
by diamond7
Port Wine, a symbol of Portugal in the world, holds the history of a country and its people and has become through the years a cultural landmark of the work, experiences, knowledge and art gathered through generations. Encloses in itself years and years of history and tradition, and it is attached to a region - The Douro Region - whose beautiful landscapes, source of attraction since the first moment for never to be forgotten, were influenced by it. The Port Wine cellars are the right place to discover this Portuguese wine and all of its history. Open to the public, they give you the opportunity to taste this precious nectar, to meet its evolution through the years, the region where it is produced and the way it is obtained.
Great Backgrounds
by Frankinho
There are a lot of nice backgrounds in front of which you can take pictures of your favorite mascot ... Here you see Herthinho with the Ribeira district in the back. This shot was taken from the southern bank of the river Douro, just a few steps west of the Dom Luis I bridge. (But please don't ask me how hard I had to try taking this picture in the pouring rain, being there all on my own - except being accompanied by Herthinho, of course ...)
Bargain Hunting.
by nhcram
A typical Saturday morning flea market in the centre of the city. This one fascinated me, as everyone seemed oblivious to us tourists being amongst them taking pictures. They were probably too busy looking for a bargain.
This market can be found in the Campo dos Martires da Patria street.
We unfortunately did not find any bargains that day!
I speak Portuguese, but...
by Elainehead
I speak Portuguese, but Portuguese from Brazil, and sometimes I had problems to understand them speaking (accent and some words which are different in my language, i.e. Portuguese from Brazil) and vice-versa. Examples: bairro (district, area), I found out they say 'freguesia'; canudinho (straw) is palha.
Estádio do Dragão
by vichatherly
New home of FC Porto.
This stadium is a whole lot better than the old "Estadio das Antes" in terms of view and facilities. It was opened in November 2003 and was built for the UEFA Eurpoean Championships 2004.
A top european ground with a capacity of 52,000 all seater.
