Safe for singles?

by suzannescm

I am spending a week in Porto City and wondered if it would be safe for a single lady and any tips on what to see and where to eat?

Re: Safe for singles?

I think you would be safe because I thought it was so boring. Little restaurants and outdoor patio cafes was my highlght of the day. Cheers Tommy x

hello
it's safe, but the centrum of porto gets empty and closed from about 21 hours, you have to know the places where people goes out for restaurants, bars and disco's like the ribeira and adresses at boavista of foz.You have to have adresses about the places to go at night.
south of porto across the river douro you have about 20km of beautiful beaches ,also good for walking, and 15 km south porto you have a little beachcity Espinho, with better sea breezze and a sea promenade full of restaurants. I prefer to stay in espinho and then take the train to visit, citytrip porto and then go back to espinho

Porto´s fine for singles. As mentioned before, Porto closes very early. There is a restaurant in Oporto that has gained some fame foor good cooking: Bacalhoeiro, at Avenida Diogo Leite 74, Vilanova da Gaia. As the name indicates, restaurant is codfish specific but then again, not one single trip to Portugal is complete without trying their world famous bacalhau. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you, I dont suppose you could recommend a cheap but good guest house in the centre of town too? (I have looked on line but there are hundreds!)
Thanks

Thanks, I won't need mace then? Perhaps just a shopping bag.

I took my wife and 3 daughters to Porto for 4 days and we all felt it was very safe. The city itself seemed very blue collar, and walking back from the river front up the darkened stairs was a little eyrie. Our favorite restaurant was Cafe Majestic on Catalina?. We enjoyed a wine tour to the Douro Valley. Karl

The Multi-Colors at Mercado do Bolhão

by MarioPortugal

Whenever I do visit Mercado do Bolhão the very first thing that pops up are the multi-colors that my eyes catch whatever direction I look at. Lovely.

Walk along the Douro River and across the old bridge ( lower level if afraid of heights). Since this was my first location in Portugal, walking through the old city streets down the hill will never be forgotten.

telescopes

by arasnosliw

From the banks of Vila Nova de Gaia (on the south side of the Douro), you have a wonderful view of Porto. There are blue telescopes lining the waterfront that you can utilize to view a magnified Porto. Or in the case of this boy, I think he is checking out the sweet young ladies to his left ;-) Okay, maybe he's a little too young for that.

Francesinha

by micas_pt

Francesinha is the name of a typical food you can eat in Porto/North region. It is made with 2 slices of bread and inside the bread you can find beef, ham and cheese. All is covered with a spicy tasty sauce (no idea of ingredients, just know it’s tasty!!) and more cheese. In some places you will find “variations” such as egg, mushroom, and so on. I don’t have a photo; so i guess i will have to visit Porto soon, take my camera, order (and eat!!) Francesinha so that i can shoot it, just for your Vters. :-)

Football teams in Porto

by edstraveltips

Porto have two top division sides in the Portuguese league- FC Porto and Boavista. If you are intending to attend a match when in Porto be aware that the teams do not play at home alternate weeks as Arsenal and Spurs do in the English premier league for example. You may be unlucky and get both teams away from home as I did!
