More about Vila Gale Ampalius
couldnt be bettered
arrived back today from vila gale ampalius. Couldn't have been better.Very clean, excellent friendly service. Large rooms, clean sheets and towels daily. Fantastic location, everthing within easy walking distance. If staying here don,t miss the dinner and show at the casino. Excellent choice of food at buffet breakfast, something to suit everyone.
Loved the Ampalius and Vilamoura
My husband and I have just returned from a very relaxing break at the Vila Gale Ampalius. Check in was very efficient, although our room was not ready as our flight had arrived early. This gave us the opportunity to visit the Marina which we thought was beautiful. If you like boats (or should I say some close to cruise ships), shopping and people watching then this is the place to be.
Back to the hotel.... our room was lovely, really modern and recently refurbished along with the entire hotel. It was spotlessly clean and the maid service was second to none. The beds were confortable and the shower was fab, really warm and relaxing after a hard day lounging aroud the pool / beack which is literally a stones throw from the hotel. The only downside with the pool is that it is a bit of a wind trap although this can be quite inviting as temperatures reached 28 during our stay.
We stayed at the Ampalius on a Bed and Breakfast basis which is buffet style and were more than pleased with the variety on offer. The fresh fruit was delicious and included everything you could think of. The only downside was that the bacon and sausage (frankfurters) were not up to British standard. The staff were very efficient and replaced the empty dishes with fresh food as soon as it ran out. I would advise that you go to breakfast around 8am to avoid the rush as it can become very busy due to the vast majority of the guests being groups of golfers.
We did not eat an evening meal at the hotel as we preferred to walk down to the Marina which is only a 2 min walk from the hotel and has plenty to offer. You have to be a bit choosy with the restaurants but Il Lamparo and La Fragata, which I'd reccomend to anyone, were packed to the rafters. The meals at The Old Navy were also lovely and there are plenty of other restaurants on offer also, but as I mentioned be a bit choosy!! What i would say is that there is nowhere really to go for just a drink as most places are geared for eating.
To sum our holiday up we had a great time and would definately return. The beach and the Marina were fab and the hotel was immaculate and I would definately recommend it to anyone staing in Vilamoura.
Just arrived back from 7 days at the Ampalius Hotel, where i was with 4 other family members including an infant, we where offered an upgrade as soon as we checked in, for which we obviously took up, so we had a suite, which i will book when i come back, 2 floors, 3 bathrooms, 2 seperate bedrooms, 2 balconies, kitchen etc. We only stayed here on a b&b basis, so can only comment on the breakfast, which at certain times can become a bit packed, the buffet was always being restocked and staff where running around trying to keep up with the food demands, overall the food was excellent.
This hotel is not the liviest of hotels, with different solo acts on every night, the sort of entertainment the x fator would be proud of, it was amusingly entertaining, the sort of music you have to listen too just to have a laugh.
The hotel is relaxing so if you are looking for party atmosphere go else where. The only gripe i has was the outdoor swimming pool, it was so cold the sea was actually warmer, so not many people where using it, so with an infant i spent most of the time in the indoor pool, wearing a lovely swim hat (must be worn in the indoor pool only).
if you are eating out try the restaurants behind the harbour (behinf the Figo bar) this is where you find Rui's Carvery, run by english and the food is top notch,
Ampalisu stikes again
We visited the Ampalius for what is now the 4th time in recent years. My wife and I work hard all year and although like experiencing new things, we have found a hotel that we keep coming back to for a really relaxing holiday. In fact, whilst there last year we met with and noticed no less than 12 parties who had been there during the same weeks for the previous two years! (All nationalities).
We stay B + B for 14 nights and are always impressed with the facilities. Breakfast buffet is out of this world, something for everyone and the waistline can easily go to pot! Rooms are sup[erb, the one we had this year had been refurbished and the new Air Con was particulary welcome. Exceptionally clean, great staff - very attentive but not intrusive.
Weather was superb again, although we had an unusal two days of wind and cloud, but the rest of the time temps were well over 30 degrees.
We dont tend to eat in the hotel, not for any other reason that down in the marina ( 5 - 10 mins walk) you have a multitude of good restaurants and bars. Vilamoura is exceptionally cosmopolitan and some of the boats berthed there are amazing! We can recommend restaurants like Cataplana, the Chinese Harbour View (up the steps) and Oustra D'or.
It is worth paying that bit extra at Ampalius for a sea view, there are loads of rooms that are on the curved ocean frontage and this just adds to the room.
We ARE trying somewhere else this year but will also be fitting in another visit as we would feel that we'd missed out if we didnt. Perfect for couples especially, plenty of entertainment nearby in the marina and some entertainment in the hotel. If you want excellent breakfasts, great views, staff and facilities, with not too many children, this is the place for you.
loved the view
My sister and I have just returned from a very enjoyable holiday at the Ampalius hotel. The staff were very helpful and efficient. We were on bed and breakfast basis so I cannot comment on evening meals. The breakfasts were excellent and we did not have to wait to get a seat, the tables were laid as soon as they became vacant. We had a room on the 8th floor overlooking the beach, and the room was cleaned every day and the towels changed. One little complaint we had a nice little kitchenette with everything in it apart from a bottle opener!!!!!.
One downside to the holiday was looking to the left from our balcony was a circus with live animals which we found appalling, they were in trailers in cages with just the doors open,it must have been absolutely awful in the heat of the day,we did not realise those sort of circuses still go on.This was not in Vilamoura but on the way to Quarteira.
My sister and I will certainly go back one day as we really enjoyed the holiday and all the lovely meals we had in the restaurants around the Marina, the Chinese,Indian and Thai were wonderful.
great hotel, very nice location
Very nice hotel, excellent location. Spacious rooms - we had a junior suite - very clean and a nice view on the beach.
Two things we also recognised in other reviews : 1. breakfast : enough choice but always a cue and really bad coffee !! We also had diner at the hotel (we went for the half-board option) - wrong choice.... there are enough very nice restaurants near to the hotel. The hotel restaurant offers little choice - buffet style but the food is really average, and it is not a nice place to sit - no view and very dark.
2. pool area : nice swimming pool and very clean but all the sunbeds were taken from 7 am - sitting at the pool felt almost like sitting at a local swimming pool, no view and very crowded. We spend most of our time on the beach where we had to pay for our sunbeds (+/- 15 Euro for 2 sunbeds per day)but is was really worth it. I would definitely recommend the hotel but would not take half-board again and be prepared to pay extra for a sunbed at the beach.
.............Very comfortable hotel
We stayed at this hotel in July, and found it to be most welcoming and comfortable... nothing elaborate, but certainly good all round value.
The breakfast was exceedingly good with a large selection of healthy options, which was nice... also the opportunity to have champagne if you so desired!! The staff were very pleasant, nothing was too much trouble.
The area surrounding the hotel was lovely for a relaxing holiday, with a wonderful choice of restaurants, all reasonably priced. The beach was fantastic for families, very clean, with good facilities. Also the location is good if you wish to travel using public transport , with the bus stop a 2 minute walk from the hotel, good services running along the Algarve.
We will definately return, and will recommend the Ampaleus to our friends.
Good hotel in great location
I've now stayed twice at this hotel. The hotel is generally good, with decent sized rooms. Staff are generally helpful and a reasonable number of facilities and activities are offered.
However, there are a few problems. The hotel is looking a bit dated in parts and could do with some refurbishment. In particular, the bathrooms look like they came straight out of the '70s. The worst aspect is the air conditioning, which is woefully inadequate.
However, the main reason to choose this hotel is the location. It's next to the marina with lots of bars and restaurants around and is also next to the beach.
It's not perfect, but I would recommend the hotel. Choose a sea-facing room if you want to be guaranteed a balcony and a great view.
Excellent location, a good place with a great sea view if you want a lazy break. Our 3 year old was more than happy around the marina, on the beach or by the paddling pool. We found sunbeds available all day (we stayed the last wk in Sept - temps still around 28/30 so great!)
2 beds & umbrellas about 15 euros for the day on the beach so we didn't use.
Breakfasts ok though coffee pretty naff - out of a machine!
Entertainment didn't seem too exciting - but as we had a 3 year old we weren't bothered by this.
Lots of groups of golfers - could be a bit packed in breakfast from 9/9.30.
Would go back again - it isn't the most luxurios hotel but is ok & in a fab location especially if you have kids.
Vilamoura marina has a great choice of places to eat & drink - we will be back!
In love with Vilamoura
I visited this hotel with my husband for the bank holiday. It was fab! Breakfast was buffet style allowing you to go back for as much as like - fresh fruit, yoghurts, cooked breakfast and choice of cereals and choices of teas and coffees- You could even have a bucks fizz!
The room was great too. It was quite small but to my amazement there was a cooker and fridge freezer behind the wardrobe door, just great for chilling wine and water. There wasnt an ice cube tray but ice could be obtained from the bar downstairs.
Staff really friendly and helpful with organising transport. When we arrived we were able to leave our baggage with them even though it was before checkin time.
Location was spot on, right on beach front, minutes from bars and restaurants and marina.
The pool area was well maintaned but it was freezing although people were swiming in it. Loungers were really comfy and plentiful and the staff were totally hands on ie; if you needed an umberella they would only be too happy to get one for you. There was live music in the bar but rather boring, it was much more livelier on the marina.
The was a bar on the other side of the marina which I would highly recommend 'Avavit' swedish restaurant - pricey but beautiful - lots of fish and meat on the menu. We have been there previously and it was still fine.
The Irish bar and Ruis bar are a good place for Brits.
Overall a fantstic break to get away from 'The Thermal Vest' of the world MANCHESTER!
Vilamoura is a wonderful place to go much nicer than Puerto Banus and Marbella I would love to live here on my Sunseeker - just dreaming -
I would return here tomorrow if I could!!!!!!!!
