2 Bed Apt Vila Sol
We went to the Vila Sol Apartments - part of the Vila Sol Hotel. The apartments are beautiful (2 bed) very spacious and if you have a top floor (3 floors) then you have the roof terrace and also a large balcony. Kitchen has all of the appliances and there are 2 bathrooms one with bath and shower. The only draw back is the apartments are quite a walk to the hotel and there is no footpath, so the walk is quite unsafe. We used the hotel for breakfast (pre booked and paid for buffett 8pds but not sure how they tell what u have paid for as all buffett and hot food together) the breakfast was good and worth paying for. We stayed at the pool (while our husbands played golf) and we had the full use of the hotel and pool towels - the pool was never full (we were there 14/7 for a week). There is a bar/snack bar where you can get hot food and drinks and sometimes there is a waiter to take your drinks order. We ate in the hotel restaurant, the food was quite good and we tried the Vila Sol Golfers Wine, this was good as the wine list tended to be overpriced. We also ate at the Oliveras which is at the golf club the food was very good the first time and the service was excellent. Bit more expensive than the hotel restaurant, but make sure you go to the piano bar - it is nicer to sit in there for pre dinner drinks.
The resort is all new and in great condition there are only a couple of downsides, there is no supermarket on site and you have to get the courtsey bus into Vilamoura to get to the supermarket and for us to get a cab back was a bit of a nightmare, and you have to rely on the hotel transport to get you to and from your apt. We didnt have too much trouble as we always pre booked from our apt, as there is a phone and you ring to reception but when the resort is busy I bet it can be a nightmare. Dont rely on the hotel transport to Vilamoura as it never runs on time and sometimes does not run so unless you make a fuss they wont bother. The cab back from Vilamoura does vary between 5 euros to 15 euros. But in the evening it is a nightmare trying to get a cab back. The marina is ok, but two visits were enough for us. I would possibly go back as the hotel was lovely and new and basically the service was good. Weather was excellent and apparently the golf was good as well.
Great relaxing holiday
We stayed at one of the sunset villas after booking directly with the owner, apt was directly across from hotel and golf course so a great location. Apt was fab. with everything we needed, lots of sppace and ex. quality. Vila Sol Hotel is luxury standard with prices too match. We made great use of hotel pool but on last day were informed that pool is for hotel guests only but nobody ever queried us. The hotel also supplies transport to beach club our info pack said we could also use this service but we were refused on the day we treied to use it as it was solely for hotel guests. Info needs to be clarified between owners and hotel as there are several discrepancies! golf at Vila Sol is top class though course is tough enough for mid handicappers.Spa is superb and well worth taking up the special offers.
Al in all we would return as it has a great location and fab facilities. Booking direct with owner Jenny also good value and no problem
Having read the last two reviews I have to say I am really surprised by the comments. We stayed at Vila Sol for 10 days at the start of July with our 2 children aged 4 & 8. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment with a half board option. The apartment was excellent , very spacious, clean and with every home comfort we needed. The only down side of the apartments was their distance from the main hotel however this wasn't really a problem as we hired a car for some of the time we were there and on the other days we simply phoned the hotel and asked them to send someone down to pick us up - this was always done promptly and efficiently.
In terms of the food options we thought the breakfast was outstanding, loads of choice and beautifully presented. Dinner in the evening again we thought was excellent. There wasn't a huge choice on the children's menu but ours were quite happy with what they had. On the evenings we went out to eat the hotel were happy for us to swap our half board option for lunch which we had at the poolside bar and again found the standard of food to be very good.
Our children used the children's club usually just for an hour or so each day to get out of the sun. They enjoyed it and I found the staff to be very friendly and keen to play with the children.
We only went to the beach once during our stay and again found the standards to be high.I would say that the staff there were not as efficient or friendly as those at the hotel but we were only there for a few hours so it really didn't matter. We spent most days at the hotel pool as we were going up there for breakfast anyway and again found it to be of a very high standard.
Overall we thouroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately return
A nice hotel but as a so called 'leading hotel of the world' it fails to deliver on several counts. Service is exceptionally poor, particularly round the pool area and at the beach – particular bugbears include:
- no waiter service round the pool (you have to get up and go to the bar to request a drink and clear away your empties)
- the pool bar closes at 7pm even though the pool was still full until at least 8pm
- limited menus round the pool and in the Green Pines restaurant which get very samey if you eat there a couple of days
- the supposed ‘exclusive beach club’ was surrounded by local teenagers and lots of smokers
On the plus side the rooms were very nice and the golf excellent (particularly the golf academy and the pro Peter). Unfortunately though the driving range was shut for half of the week for a concert on the Sunday, which we weren’t made aware of until we arrived. Needless to say this added to our disappointment.
Missed the mark
The plus points - the rooms were very nice (by the way not worth upgrading to a golf course view), the hotel grounds were beautiful, the l'Olive restaurant was very swish and staff very attentive and the gold academy was great. However, so much irritated me about the rest of the hotel - the staff at reception, round the pool and at the beach just didn't seem bothered. The menu's didn't change and as the hotel is so isolated and you spend most of your holiday there the food gets very samey (tip:if you get fed up of the restaurant food in an evening try room service; the menu is very similar to what's available round the pool but it's quite nice to sit out on your patio and have dinner and in all honesty there's very little atmosphere in the hotel on an evening so it's quite nice having a chilled night). The hotel is really in the middle of nowhere and the shuttles limited so would really recommend a car. I can also concur with the review earlier about the taxis into Vilamoura which booked from the hotel were very expensive. In summary this is an expensive hotel (both to book and when you get there) and I didn't feel that you got any where near to what you paid for.
