Travel Tips for Vila Nova de Gaia

The Sandeman logo

by MarioPortugal

Known as The Don, The Sandeman Port Wine & Sherry Wine LOGO is considered to be the very first Wine-Logo internationally. The original painting , pictured on this tip, was finalized in 1928. Soon later it started to be used on the Sandeman wine labels.

The Logo, The Don, actually represents the culture of TWO Sandeman Wines, Port (produced in Portugal) & Sherry (produced in Spain).

The Don is the combination of the Portuguese University students cloak, originally from Coimbra (central Portugal), and the Spanish "caballeros" hat (traditional in the south of Spain).

Two TOP-100 Wines

by MarioPortugal

In December 1997 Wine Spectator magazine rated two Port Wines with 100 Points, the maximum possible rate.

Taylor Fladgate, Vintage Port 1994
Fonseca, Vintage Port 1994

Those two wines were classified designated as "Two Perfect 1994 Ports".

For more specifics on the portfolio of those two wine producers, one may log on their websites:

Vila Nova de Gaia

by Redang

Vila Nova de Gaia is on the other side of the Douro river (if you are in Porto). It has interesting places, restaurants and bars, so, you only have to cross D. Luis I bridge, and you are there (or here).

This first pic was taken from Porto.

This last pic was taken from the top of the D. Luis I Bridge.
