Good value for money, clean, basic+ , but no restaurant or breakfast. The appartments are very close to the beach which has a nice restaurant.

The 'Vasco da Gama' by Bwana_Brown On returning to Peniche from our great boating excursion to the Berlenga Islands at about 5:30 PM, we took a walk along the main waterfront street to see if we could find ourselves somewhere to spend the night. There was not much there except for restaurants, so we went one block back from the harbour to try the next parallel street. We struck gold here with lots of Residencials and we picked the Vasco da Gama because we liked its appearance. We were quickly taken up to view our room, for the going rate of E25 (US$31).
After our shower experience in Praia de Mira the night before, we were pleased to find this place had good water pressure. The best part of the room was that it had a window that opened up onto the little square where our car was parked. It is nice to be able to sit with the window wide open in Portugal (no bugs) and just observe the activity on the streets below. You can feel the wind and hear the sounds while sipping on a 'vinho tinto' after another long day! When we left the next morning, I gave the guy E30 cash because I enjoyed it so much! The photo shows Sue in our top left window and, in the annex slightly lower and to the right, is the breakfast area. Granite Manor House - built in 1686 by Bwana_Brown When choosing this accommodation, I picked the Solar de Alarcao so we could have a glimpse of what it would be like to stay in a really old building. Built in 1686, this solid granite manor house, located only step away from the 'Se' (cathedral), did not disappoint! In addition to the house itself, the car park is also surrounded by granite walls and the entrance is controlled by a large and heavy iron-grilled gate that was fun to operate.
This house was of such importance when it was built that it also contains a private chapel (visible on the far left in the photo) with its own bell and separate large doorway. The Solar has only three bedrooms, all with double beds and ensuite bathrooms. An interesting twist on their rate structure was that a room would cost us E80 (US$100) if we used both beds but only E70 if we snuggled up together! I stayed at this hotel for one night on business in October, average rooms dated decor and the staff were an army of teenagers who gave less than average service. I had booked two rooms for me and a work colleague I am happy that i kept the internet printout as hen I arrived one youth at the desk argued that i had infact booked a twin which i never do as i like my own bathroom, he argued even when i showed him the printout and the price i had paid was for two rooms he said he would do the best he could and offered two rooms one a twin and the second with a large double bed, i was too tored to argue at that point, despite several staff behind the desk not one offered to take our bags to our room and pointed to the lifts. Later i rang down and requested two large lime and soda be sent to our rooms 2o minutes later still not arrived so I rang and made the order once more after a further 10 minutes I walked to the bar to find the youth at the bar stood chatting with other staff and an empty bar when i complained he just shrugged his shoulders. AVOID this place my first choice the Marriott was full and this place half empty. Expensive and very average a 2 star at the most with one star service

Many of Portugal's old castles, monasteries, and palaces have been restored and converted into hotels. They are called 'pousadas,' and if you are feeling like a king, you may choose to sleep in one of them. They are not for the budget traveler, but are also not as expensive as you'd expect. Two popular ones are in Obidos' castle and Evora's former convent of Loios. Theme: Hotel
