This is more than a 5 stars hotels, this is a real palace and a privilege to stay there.
It was a palace of Neo Manuelino style where the last kings of Portugal stayed during their hunting holidays.
At the beginning it was a monastery founded by Carmelites monks. You still can visit a monastery of the XVII century nearby, waterfalls and exuberant nature.
Although I did not sleep there, I could manage to get inside (only guests are allowed there, even to drink a beer in the bar or to have lunch in the restaurant) and admired for a whole hour the magnificence of the place, the hall, two rooms, the restaurant, its gardens and breathtaking atmosphere up in the mountains, encircled by a true jungle of foliage and fine-looking trees.
It is located not far from Coimbra, at about 25 kilometres of distance and it is really worth to go there, walking or hitchhiking, even if you do not plan to spend the night there.

This is a centrically located hotel, newly built, close to the Holy Basilica. Recently built and located next door to the Bodegas with wine and liquors testing.

In spite of its name, this hotel is cheap, 3 stars, and located close to the River Mondego and the bus station.

This is a cheap youth hostel in this historical town, the third by population in Portugal.

It is located just next door to the historical palace Sottomayor.
It has an excellent swimming pool, and at night is very quiet. The rooms are like flats, with kitchen and balconies.

This is a central hotel almost next door to the casino and at 100 meters to the beach.
Their prices are moderated and the Indian restaurant in the ground floor is authentic, being its owner from Goa.

This is the first high hotel that you will find when coming to Figueira da Foz. It is just in front of the beach and downstairs there are several pleasant cafes where to drink a Porto wine or enjoy a coffee after your meals.
From the top rooms you will admire the statuary of the Mondego River (the only 100 per cent Portuguese river) and the Boa Viagem Mountain.

This hotel is not too far from historical Oporto and its prices are convenient. Restaurant offers self service system and the breakfast is very rich including codfish, eggs and natural fruit juices.

Rooms might be considered small for those not used to 500 years old buildings, furniture is not fancy but certainly adequate and, yes, air-conditioning works fine.
