Apartment in Funchal centre

by Pau365

Hi,

Would anyone know where I could look to find an apartment in central Funchal (not the hotels part 2 km out, I mean the city centre itself). Any websites you can book through, agencies, people who have flats to rent? It would be for a T2 type apartment, for a week in early December.

Thanks!!

Some time ago we looked to rent apartments in central Funchal. We found quite a selectcion by merely googling "self-catering Funchal".....

I amm not sure what a type T2 apartment is but anyway there are a few apartment hotels in the centre around the Municipal Gardens and Rua da Carreira areas which are very central but also a really nice area to stay, pedestrianised streets with lots of bars/restaurants and easy access to the bus stations.

If its cheap and simple you want then try http://www.apartamentossaopaulo.com/ I have stayed there a few times. Older place, rooms with a simple kitchen off a large bedroom, no air con.

If its newer and more upmarket I have seen good reports for http://www.atlantida-apartments-madeira.com/en/welcome.html and this one http://www.self-catering-breaks.com/Properties/Prop43978.htm

Thanks a lot for your help, Hawkshead and Dedinburgh, finally we did stay near the Jardins de S.Francisco/Carreira area, in Apartamentos Atlântida, which were fine.

The Portuguese system T0, T1, T2 means T0: no bedrooms, i.e. a studio, T1=1 bedroom, T2: 2 bedrooms etc.

Travel Tips for Funchal

Streets of Funchal

by sandysmith

The streets of Funchal are quite ornate with balconied houses and the black and white stone patterned ground everywhere - all different dsigns. They were quite uneven at times though with tree roots and with the pattern deceiving your eyes you had to watch where you walked!

Underwater wonders

by ettenaj

The reefs and caves of Madeira's southeast coast have recently been protected by the declartion of a 77,200 square mile Marine Mammal Sanctury. The Dive College International Madeira, based at the Dom Pedro Baia hotel in Machico has qualified staff to teach and escort new and experienced divers. Amongst a great variety of marine life to be seen are monkfish, coralfish, octopus, tuna and the colourful parrot fish.

Vicentes Museum

by salinhopt

The Vicentes Photographic Museum was the first photographic studio to open in Portugal. The photographs on display allow us to witness an island and its society through the lens of a camera which includes subject matters such as the great industrial and social changes, cultural revolutions, hunger revolts, wars, and political and economic upheavals of the years that spanned more than 100 years across two centuries.

O Almirante

by myriam_c about O Almirante

O ALmirante is situated on the edge of the Zona Velha. It has one of the oldest fountains on its terrace. It's nice to have a drink or something to eat on their terrace, to observe the people passing by.

Forte de Sao Diago

by Margrette

If you are already at the ocean side, at the promenade, you can walk little more to the East and explore little bit the old fort. It is known to be the heart of the old town. It is all painted yellow so stands out and is well seen from away. Very charming old monument. You can easily get inside and walk up the stairs. From big terrace the wanderful view can be seen. The entrance fee is 2.50 Euro or free after diner at restaurant. Opened Mon-Sat 10 til 17:30.
The building is from XVII century, but it was opened for the visitors not so long ago cause in 1992.
Furthermore I don't know if it is always like that or we were lucky, but we have been welcomed with glass of champain and wine.
The fort holds also Museum of contemporary art.
