Good value budget accommodation.

We had 2 rooms at The Duas Torres for a week for me, Chris and my Mum. The rooms were quite spacious and very well equiped. The kitchen area had everything that you would need to self cater, if that is your wish. We just used the fridge/freezer for the booze and the ice !! Most of the staff were friendly and helpful with the exception of the lady in charge at breakfast time. The first time we encountered her we thought that she was very abrupt but after a few days we ralised that this was just how she is and we set about trying to make her smile - not easy ! We paid for breakfast most mornings as we were room only and most mornings we were able to sit on the outside terrace enjoying the view of the sun rising to the east. Breakfast was the usual continental fayre including meats, cheeses, breads and rolls, fruit, eggs and sausages or occasionally streaky bacon etc. There was more than enough to give us a good start to the day and very good value at 3.50 Euro per day if you bought vouchers for 3 days.

Unique Quality: We had requested a high floor room with a balcony facing west as we tend to like to sit on the balcony in the sun in the late afternoon while having a pre siesta snifter. Our room was east facing but the staff were most helpful and arranged an immediate move when I went down to reception. We ate in the restaurant one evening and had a cracking meal and very good service - first class. Maid service was daily and very efficient. We used the free minibus which runs into central Funchal a couple of times but it isn't a big deal as to walk either way takes about 20 minutes. ( more if you stop off half way at The Paradise bar / restaurant for coffees and liquors - as we did more ofter than not ) There are buses running right past the door ( 1,2,4,48 or the airport bus ) The hotel is in a pretty good location with numerous restaurants within walking distance and the Forum Madeira shopping centre, including Pingo Doce supermarket, is just across the road. We have no complaints about the Duas Torres and the 253 Euros for our room for the week represented outstanding value. Best points were restaurant, rooms, view, service and value for money. I would stay there again.

3.5 km from the centre of Funchal, on a cliff top by the sea.

hI, I have not stayed at that hotel, but its on the outskirts of Funchal, about 4 km from the centre I would say. I think it comes under the Ajuda area/district, its not far from Madeira Forum shopping complex . I think the hotel runs a courtesy bus into town, so worth using that. Enjoy your stay if you have not already been
