Hi,
I'll be visting Funchal, Madeira next week for a conference. The conference venue is located in Tivoli Madeira Hotel, which I can find on Google map. The hotel however is named Vila Camacho, the website says it is located at Beco Do Amoreira 26 but I cannot locate this on Google map. I can say where is it approximately, it's about 10km from the conference venue but no online map shows the exact place. Can someone help me finding this place? I'm specially interested to know if there is bus trips available between the two locations?

vila camacho is situated at sao martinho, i look in portugese google www.google.pt , the 2 location look a little bit in the same line,just vila camacho up the moutain, the distance like me lesser the 1o km,there are a lot of public transportation in funchal and therefore if you don't reach it with one bus you will reach with 2 busses

it seems that there are more than vila camacho! Or at least this is what I get. But could you please send me the google link that shows both at the same time?
hotel vila camacho funchal is only one and is just in sao martinho in the same line as tivoli madeira ,the problem is for me the hotel tivoli madeira, the internet gives differents hotels,can you give me the adres of the hotel,
do you have a map of funchal?

According to this map it cannot be in Sao Martinho unless they have different locations.

the site of the hotel vila camacho is www.vilacamacho.com,tel 351291765459 there they explain very good how to arrive ,and they are situated a little down from sao martinho ,100 meter from the hotel madeira panoramico ,rua dos estados unidos da america 34,and about 400 meters down from de football stadium'estadio dos barreiros'
the hotel tivoli madeira is situated near the sea,rua simplicio dos passos gouveia 29,just behind the big road'estrada monumental'in the same line just down from vila camacho,the distance is as the bird flys is about 2 km but there are a big elevation between the 2 places and therefore you have to go around,I think the distance walking is about 3 km.
in the site of the hotel tivoli madeira they write that they have a free bus to the centrum, but if you go out the next croosroad at the hotel quinta do sol, you are already very near from the hotel vila camacho,
if you use the map at the site from tivoli madeira , you get google earth and a little higher you see very good the footbal stadium, and the street left going dounw left is rua dos estados unidos da america
Madeira suffered a lot with the big flooding of February, but Funchal recovered very quick. Here and there there are still signs of destruction, but nothing that may spoil any kind of vacation.
You have to look carefully or to go outside Funchal to have an idea about what really happened.
Good walking shoes Camera / video definatley Possibly a light shower proof coat as like anywhere else it can rain! A place in your heart cos you will need it to bring a little of Madeira home with you
Funchal has its fair share of public gardens and this one - St Caterina - is passed if you walk from the hotel zone into town rather than catching a bus or taxi. Its a shame that the lovely statues there have had graffiti scrawled over them - a problem not unique to Madeira -but the gardens are pleasant with views over the harbour and a little white seventeenth-centry chapel - Capela de Santa Catarina.
Just past our hotel (monumental Lido) going further away from Funchal was this lovely little coffehouse. All sorts of cakes and pastries to sample - unfortunately we never got in here until the last day - but then again judging by the portions maybe that was a good thing! (see next tip)
City Hall is situated at the east side of the square. The Carvalhal family built this City Hall and its architectonic features date from the 18th century. The building was acquired by the City of Funchal in 1883. An impressive staircase gives access to the building's main floor, which has eleven windows connected by a veranda in wrought iron. Inside, there is a beautiful courtyard with a marble statue of "Leda and the Swan". At the Southside of the square the Sacred Art Museum is situated. It houses an excellent collection of Flemish paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries, there are also several sculptures, sacred jewellery, priestly garments and Portuguese paintings from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Many of these objects were acquired with the wealth brought by the sugar trade.
After all thes beautiful impressions we had a nice cappuchino in front of some beautiful mansions at the west side of the square. The view we had at the square was magnificent! The Praça do Municipio (Municipal Square) is a study in light and black, the square paved with hundreds of black and white lava half moons surrounded by whitewashed buildings trimmed in dark stone.
