Superb Quinta da Bela Vista

by A TripAdvisor Member

We loved this hotel! A lovely old "manor house", now extended and set in quiet grounds with peaceful gardens. This hotel is outside the busy centre of Funchal and set on a hill with views of the town and the bay. The short taxi ride to the town centre is easy and cheap and it was nice to be staying in such peaceful surroundings. The room was very well-equipped and comfortable. The food was excellent. Breakfast is buffet style but the ever-attentive waiting staff were on hand to provide any special requirements. The choice and quality were superb. We wanted a relaxing break with no worries and this is what we got here. Although we really liked everything about the hotel, the most notable feature of the Quinta da Bela Vista is the staff. They are genuinely friendly and considerate. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything they did, including somehow miraculously tracing my glasses after I left them in a taxi, was done with real care and friendly professionalism. We travel a lot and we are quite critical so it was refreshing to find a hotel where we felt the service could not have been improved upon! Everything we expected was provided impeccably and there were none of the disappointments often experienced in other hotels. Having stayed in many hotels around the world, this is the only one we really do want to visit again. The hotel's questionnaire includes the usual question: "How could we improve?" - We couldn't think of anything they're not already doing!

In Appreciation of Gracious Living

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I stayed in the Quinta da Bela Vista to celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary. We were delighted by the lovely gardens, the gracious antique furniture in all the rooms, the excellent food and the courteous and attentive staff. Although the hotel is on the hill behind Funchal a frequent minibus service puts it witin easy reach. We have no hesitation in recommending this up market hotel to discerning travellers.

Note. None of my photgraphs improve on those in the hotel's excellent brochure.

A little gem of a hotel

by TripAdvisor Member MHBath

We recently had a week at the Quinta da Bela Vista and we loved everything about it, the excellent and personalised service, the very friendly staff, the lovely gardens and the view over Funchal (magical at night), the very nice breakfast in the conservatory, and the delicious evening meals in the restaurant and drawing rooms in the old Quinta, which was more like dining in a private Georgian house. I could not recommend it enough if, like us, you prefer a bit of charm and refinement not found in bog-standard hotels.

The Hidden Gem

by TripAdvisor Member PaulHenly

On our arrival at Quinta da Bela Vista we were told it was the resort’s hidden gem and, by the time we left, we understood why. Shaded and immaculately tended gardens gave the Quinta a very relaxing backdrop and all the staff made sure our stay was the ultimate stress buster.

The breakfasts were excellent with fresh fruit and hot and cold dishes to suit every taste. We ate in the Quinta on one occasion only – in the restaurant serving the table d’hote menu – and the food and service were of the highest standard, although there were very few others dinning and it was too quiet for us. The other evenings we chose to visit the old town in Funchal with its livelier atmosphere.

Our room was simply but tastefully decorated and kept spotlessly clean by staff who were always cheerful and friendly. Visitors to the old mansion house, which houses the a la carte restaurant, will be delighted by the classically furnished lounges and library.

Attention to detail and the comfort of guests, whether it was during the day around the pool, in the bar at night or in ordering taxis for our trip to town is something the staff and owners of the Quinta da Bela Vista should be proud of and we look forward to the next opportunity we have of visiting there again.

Quintessential Quinta

by A TripAdvisor Member

Was it Divine Intervention or a Happy Accident that took us to Quinta da Bela Vista when another hotel found it had overbooked us? I prefer to think it was the first possibility, so closely did this beautiful hotel match our cherished hopes of a tranquil holiday among friendly and caring people.

If it's an all action, fever-pitched, high octane adventure holiday you are looking for, don't come here! If it's a stress free rest in an oasis of grace, taste and caring hospitality, then look no further!

There is so much one can praise agout this Quinta - lovely staff, quiet location, beautiful manorial buildings, botanical gardens, exquisite food: but a single incident sums it up perfectly for us. One evening the hotel laid on a "typical Madeiran buffet supper" and out hearts were warmed at the sight of one of the restaurant waiters taking an old lady gently by the arm and escorting her to and from the buffet tables with an old-world charm and courtesy that bought a tear to our eyes. Who will do that for us when we are old?

Beautiful Quinta with Wonderful Service on a Delightful Island

by A TripAdvisor Member

This was our first visit to Madeira and it will not be our last to this beautiful island. The climate was warm and sunny in October when the weather in central Europe was cold and rainy. The views from the numerous vantage points around the island are just breathtaking as is the fauna wherever you go.
We stayed at the Quinta Bela Vista which I must say is just about Perfect in every way (see attached photos). From the very moment you arrive you are taken care of with what I can only describe as the warmest, friendliest and most excellent service that I have encountered in my many years of travelling. The room was spacious and very comfortable with an excellent panoramic view over the bay and the hotel delightfully appointed with tasteful antiques while somehow managing to remain bright and modern in appearance. The dining experience is a definite must as the food is excellent and the ambience one of pure luxury (but not expensive). While being only minutes from Funchal (which it overlooks) you have the feeling of private isolation within the extensive grounds of this hotel.
The capital Funchal is a charming town, full of character and things to see and do. The food in the many restaurants is good and not expensive. While not being a particular garden worshipper I must mention that even I was impressed by the gardens at Monte and the orchids on the island. The island is not large and there are many ways to see and enjoy it from organised tours to private taxis or as we did using a hire car. None of these are expensive. I recommend on a suitable day that you take a sunset cruise of around 1 1/2hrs which gives you another different view of the island (ours cost just Euro 23 per person with the hotel's yacht and was worth every euro).
Enough said.....take a look at the attached photos and see if you don't become tempted to visit.

Peace and beauty

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and their help at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. We arrived late and hungry and they immediately opened the main dining room and offered us a choice of soup, and looked after us. The buildings are scattered among lovely tropical gardens and there is an air of peace and tranquillity about the place. The hotel is situated on a hillside, and from the large swimming pool, you can sit at tables on a patio eating a light lunch and admiring the wonderful view of the whole bay of Funchal below. The courtesy bus runs frequently in the daytime, and there is a convenient bus from the town that stops near the hotel for evenings. It is not suitable for noisy children. The public rooms are filled with beautiful antique furniture, but one still has free access to a computer in the library. We would highly recommend it for a relaxing and cosseted existence.

Fantastic stay

by TripAdvisor Member Barnet

We stayed at the Quinta da Bella Vista for two weeks in Feb / Mar 2006. I could not fault this Quinta in anyway. The Quinta is beautiful, very clean and very peaceful. All the staff are very helpful and will do anything to make your stay a perfect one.
I would recomend this Quinta to anyone who likes a peaceful stay in a wonderfuil location.
We will definatly be back.

Outstanding Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel is the best which my wife and I have stayed at in recent times. A beautiful hotel, with attentive, but unobtrusive staff, who are extemely well-managed and motivated. Rooms are excellent, and the sitting out areas are superbly furnished, spacious and comfortable. I recommend it to anyone.
