More about Quinta da Casa Branca

Real five star sevice

by TripAdvisor Member Jasmin31

We have just returned from Madeira. We fully agree with previous opinions about Quinta da Casa Branca. From our point of view It is the best hotel in Funchal. A good location, wonderful service and food, peaceful atmosphere, beautiful gardens. We can't forget their afternoon teas with freshly made delicious cakes. Everybody is made to feel special by the staff. If you want to have a relaxing holiday this hotel is ideal.

This is our favourite place to stay in Funchal

by TripAdvisor Member wdshdly

Whilst Funchal continues to develop along the coast Quinta da Casa Branca continues to be an island of tranquility largely unaffected by the noise of development and increasing traffic.

It has also maintained its long reputation (we were last there in 2000) for genuinely excellent food and service. All the staff are so friendly and helpful (tip: make a friend of Delia who runs the restaurant to perfection). A previousl reviewer stated that men must wear a tie in the restaurant. This is Not True.

Should you decide to eat out try O Barquerio and Aviao Novo for their excellent fish (tip: unless you can manage a huge meal don't both with a starter).

The extensive gardens and pool area remain a delight.

Over the years we have stayed in many hotels in Funchal and this hotel continues to be our first choice.

Beautiful garden location

by TripAdvisor Member Sunman239

If you want direct sea views and/ or multiple swimming pools, go for somewhere like the Royal Savoy. If, however, you appreciate being in a beautiful garden setting with high quality rooms and private balconies or lawn areas with secluded pool patio, then Quinta da Casa Branca must be the top choice.

Excellent buffet breakfasts, and the hotel's own restaurant is one of the best in Funchal - we dined there 3 times in our week. The location is in between the vast and still developing "hotel district" and themain town and seafront, just up the hill from Reids. Ample free car parking - we found a hire car useful to get around the island and also around Funchal which is hilly. There are several very good restaurants within walking distance, without the need to go right into town.

We were lucky enough to be upgraded from superior room to suite- a magnificent room with a majestic balcony. Any complaints? Well, the mattress on our enormous bed was disappointingly hard, and we found beverage service to the pool area somewhat lacking. The hotel had no visitor information, leaflets etc, and when asked to recommend restaurants, came up with only one. Background traffic noise is always there , but this probably applies to most hotels in Funchal.

Despite these points, the Quinta Casa Branca (part of Arteh hotels) is an excellent, relaxing place, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay if visiting Madeira again.

What a Honeymoon!!

by TripAdvisor Member mase192

Having got married on 30/06/07 our honeymoon destination had been decided at the Quinta Da Casa Branca... and we weren't disappointed.

HOTEL

The hotel is beautifully set in a huge assortment of lovely flowers and sectioned off with big trees which made us feel very comfortable and gave us the peace and tranquility we were looking for.

HOTEL FACILITIES

Daily maid service, exceptionally helpful reception, heated pool with sunbeds, sunshades and towels provided, health spa (jacuzzi, gym, sauna and massages at extra cost), sky TV, air conditioning, balcony/patio leading onto the gardens - everyhting you'd expect from a 5* hotel and it's no wonder it's regarded as one of the 400 small luxury hotels in the world.

HOTEL RESTAURANTS

Fantastic continental breakfast at the pool side bar as well as drinks and food delivered to your sun lounger upon request throughout the day. The evening restaurant was simply devine with first class service and food - definately worth featuring in the top 10 restuarants of Madeira. There was also the 'deck bar' for afternoon/evening drinks.... ideal for unwinding after a hard days sunbathing!

THINGS TO DO IN FUNCHAL

Cable Car up to Monte is a must with some breathtaking views (10 euros each one way) and to come back down it has to be the ledgendary toboggan. At 25 euros per couple it is not cheapbut has to be experienced. 10 euros will get you a photo on the toboggan and another 25 euros will get you a taxi back to your otel or the centre of Funchal.... an expensive trip but worth every penny. There's also Fort San Tiago Art Museum, the botanical gardens, an open top bus trip of funchal, the levada walks and the flower and fish market are all worth seeing during your stay.

Be warned it is a very hilly place so either pack comfortable shoes, enough money for taxis or flip-flops and plasters for the blisters like my wife!! The taxi's on the whole are very reasonable just make sure you kow whether it's a fixed fee or if the meters running before you start the journey.

EATING OUT IN FUNCHAL

The 'Old town' section of Funchal is where the best restuarants are (3 course meal plus wine = 40/45 euros for two) and there are some more commercialised restaurants in the marina but they dont offer that extra touch. There's also a Mcdonalds and Pizza Hut but give me an Estepada or the Scabbard fish any day.

WEATHER

The weather is varied but on the whole superb. During our two weeks we experienced one cloudy day, four partyly cloudy days and the rest were briliant blue skies. Even if it lookd cloudy in the morning it often cleared up by 12 and provided tempertaures around 27-29 C.

OVERALL

An excellent hotel and location for a couple looking to relax, unwind but also have the choice of exloring local traditions. We would recommend using the a la carte facility which means to pre-pay for some of your meals at the hotel restaurant and also allows you to dine at others restuarants at your leisure.

If we could afford it we would definately return but I feel the Isle of Wight will be more our budget next year!!

Luxury hotel at an excellent price

by TripAdvisor Member Cherrybsmith

The hotel was fantastic! It has a very funky design and all the rooms open out on to the beautiful gardens. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do more to make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast was out of this world - standard continental and a la carte to choose from. We also tried lunch and dinner and they were of a very high standard too. Lovely pool, spa facilities, great deck bar for late evening drinks or afternoon tea - everything was brilliant.

Pampered in every way

by TripAdvisor Member Ifmmmif

Wonderful Hotel. We felt pampered but the service was not obtrusive. They made us so welcome. The breakfasts were so good. We also ate lunch and dinner in the Hotel which were of an excellent standard, beautifully presented and the staff were so courteous. We liked the little touches that made you feel welcome. Lemonade served by the pool lots of soft towels and dry robes whereever you needed them. Taxis were called whenever we wanted them and with no fuss. Advice on visits was given at Reception with no pressure. The gardens are most beautiful and we felt tranquil and rested. The only problem we booked one week and wished we had taken two. We did not want to come home and will certainly visit again.

A very special hotel

by TripAdvisor Member travellertrip

We found this a delightful hotel. The service was excellent, the garden beautiful and tranquil. Each room had its own patio leading onto the garden. The food was very good on the whole once we had established our dietary requirements. I wouldn't like to go in the rain as all buildings are separate and require walking through the garden to get to each restaurant, health spa etc. They do provide umbrellas in every room! We would certainly return there.

One of the best

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel is surely the one of the best if not the best in Madeira. We went on recommendation and would go back again tomorrow.

From the time we booked in nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were friendly, courteous and made you feel special.

The rooms were light and bright and all faced out on to the wonderful gardens that are a true delight.

The food was good and high quality and when asking for recommendations for various restaurants the staff were more than happy to oblige with some really outstanding recommendations.

The hotel is built on a hill so might not be easy for those that are not fully mobile but taxi's are low cost and reception orders them upon request for you.

I spent two years living in a five star hotel and have travelled extensively throughout the world and this hotel comes way up amongst the leaders. Can't wait to go back and hope it won't be too many months before I do.
