Right in the centre of Funchal
We had a very pleasant stay in Residencial Americana, a nice room (though a bit small) with a small balcony over a central street.
We paid 42€ per night per room through booking.com. Breakfast is excluded, if you want to have a breakfast inside the hotel you have to pay a small extra but I don't think it's worth paying, even though I didn't try: the room where the breakfast is served is a small room at the top floor, without windows and with small tables. And also, there are plenty of small bars all around, quite cheap and with very good things for breakfast.
Unique Quality: Staff people are vrey few, I met only two, but they're very kind and helpful and speak english.
The hotel is in the centre of Madeira and you have everything you need all around you at a walking distances: a small supermarket ("sa"), some pharmacies and monuments.

Hi,
is there anybody who knows where "Largo Do Chafariz 20" is in Funchal, Madeira?
Is there any online map with this place? I tried with google map but they don't show such a place and viamichelin.com doesn't even have a map of funchal.
Does anybody know the hotel "Residencial Americana" in Funchal?

If you google residencial americana funchal not only do you get 24,000 hits, but also a google map showing that it is below Avenida do Mar, near the cathedral. Largo Do Chafariz 20 is the street running from the Cathedral to the crossing at Bazar do Povo. It is not marked on any online ,aps because of its small size. Very close to the city centre and shops. If you Google the road name you will get an approximate location, with lots of reviews relating to Residencial Americana, which is located above a row of shops, up some steep steps.
