A small Hotel in the Old Town

I have been to Madeira and Funchal several times now, and I have used the large Hotel, all amenities etc, etc.
This holiday my wife and I chose a tiny 10 bedroom Hotel / Guesthouse called "Residencial da Mariazinha" situated in the Rua de Santa Maria the Old Town quarter of Funchal.
I found the website www.residencialmariazinha.com by research on the net and booked directly with the Hotel. I read several good reviews, no bad ones and on arrival the Hotel did not disappoint.
For a walking holiday, we require a good clean room with a bath and shower and a suitable breakfast. The Mariazinha had all our requirements met in full plus a good-sized cable TV, a large double room with remote control Aircon.
The decoration is classic Madeiran with lovely dark polished wooden floors and high ceilings. There is also a small outside terrace.
The hotel is not blessed with balconies, good views, Jacuzzi, fitness lounge and all the other stuff that you pay for and never use.
What it does have is honest accommodation, friendly and helpful staff, access literally on your doorstep to the oldest section of Funchal and all of the very best restaurants within walking distance.
The Baker’s next door supplies the excellent bread and rolls for breakfast and also our filled rolls, cakes and drinks for our walks. There is also an excellent grocer and fruiterer very close by in the same street. The prices are embarrassingly cheap. Remember, this area largely supplies the local people not the tourist.
This Hotel would not suit some people, it was excellent for my requirements.
