An all you need resort to relax or to enjoy sports, just make your choice between the 3 type of accomodations available:
Galosol Hotel****
For the maximum confort. 118 Standard/Comfort Double/Masters Suites/Jakuzzi Suites/Studios/Exclusive Oliveira Bungalow with aircon, minibar, satellite TV, safe,...
Galomar Hotel***
For less $$$ and luxe (no airon and minibar). 46 Single/Double rooms.
Hotel Alpino Atlantico****
27 Comfort Double/Suites.
Wherever you stay you will have access to the resort facilities : restaurant Ondamar, with a hearty buffet if you take the half pension, restaurant Atlantis (fish&seafood), Pizzeria Galosol (pasta&pizz), the highly recommended Capoeira Pub, the pool bar, fitness and wellness at the Onda Revital Club and Lounge with indoor swimming pool, jakuzzi, gymnasium, saunas, spa, squash courts,... and of course unlimited farniente at the lava beach and scuba diving available with Manta Diving Center.
Don't forget to ask a room with a sea view and balcony of course ;-)
Unique Quality:
Fabulous location with unlimited view on the Altlantic (Garajau marine reserve), the South-East coast and the Desertas Islands.
Close to the airport (8km - 15min) and Funchal via bus n°155 (12km - 15min with the Expressbus via highway or 30min via Garajau).
Great Manta Diving Center and diving sites around the Marine reserve - snorkeling is great too!

Just a great place
Located less than 100 meters from the ocean, alongside the famous Lido pools and Promenade right on the edge of the shore. 146 studios and junior suites, all with ocean view, large balconies with tables and chairs as well as little kitchenettes, complete with cooking facilities, small fridge, safe, etc.
This Hotel is one of the PORTO BAY group (5 in Funchal) and staying in the Eden Mar one can use all the facilities of the even newer Hotel next door, as they both are connected inside and via beautiful gardens and pools. Even the breakfast can be had at either locations.
Unique Quality: Choices of wonderful pools (in/outdoor connected via open doors to swim through, and even robes/towels for outside use are supplied), jacuzzies, extra children pools, lavish gardens with tropical flowers, a great buffet breakfast, excellent service, an abundance of comfy lawnchairs to use, pool-bar that serves lunches/ drinks, free folklore/music entertainment at nights, free internet in the lobby, numerous daily free shuttle trips to a variety of locations in Funchal (the driver even went out of his way in his big tourbus to drop us off at the casino).
As part of the whole complex is Timeshare, upon taking a tour of it one will be "rewarded" not only with a free lunch by the pool, but a EU 50.00 voucher which can be used towards any accumulated expenses at the Hotel.
All in all, a great place to relax, in quiet surroundings, yet only steps into town. One added feature is the large PINGO DOCE supermarket next door, which even has warm meals cooked on the premises and fresh baked goods and bread ready to take out and eat on your balcony with good (and cheap) local wine if one does not feel like going to one of the many restaurants just steps away from the hotel.
