Apartamentos Turísticos Nossa Senhora da Estrela: A True Paradise on earth

For those that want to relax and have a nice vacation with husband and kids, this tourism village is excellent.
You can listen to the chirp of birds in the morning, swim in the very nice swiming-pools that they have and enjoy the very beautiful garden that surrounds the entire property.
If you want to rest it's a very good choice. Besides that ,you can save a lot of money because each villa has it's own kitchennette, but if you are not in a mood to cook there are several good restaurants around the property and quite cheap.

Residencial Neto: Old standby

Neto was recommended and booked through our travel agent. It was OK... sufficient but pretty basic. The building is old and the interior hallways are long and dark. The staff was helpful and efficient though we often had to resort to our phrase book to make ourselves understood (we need to learn some Portuguese). Our cab driver, who was outstanding, was the owner's son. Breakfast was filling but not imaginative... rolls, toast, honey, jam & butter and (always) a huge plate of São Jorge cheese... coffee, tea and juice.

Neto has a cute little salt water swimming pool that overlooks the harbor.

Didn't actually stay here, but wish we had. We took tour of all the rooms & they were clean and uncrowded... nice for the price (reasonable) & included breakfast.

The bar and pizzaria downstairs has good food & a friendly, mellow atmosphere.
Located right downtown, near the harbor.
Owner speaks some English.

Salguleiros: Oceanfront Cottage in Faial Island

This cottage is private close to ocean and sea wall.
It is clean, cozy and romantic. Great views of the atlantic, and fishermen catching fish right outside the property.
There is cooking inside or outside in a grill.
Also, there are nearby picnic areas.
Waterfalls, hiking, in the friendly village.

Twenty minutes from the airport.
Half an hour to the main city of Horta marina.
Main island attraction of capelo is ten minutes drive.
other attractions within an hours drive.

Wine stores scattered throughout the village. This is a quiet relaxing village.
For the tourist who has an affinity to the ocean.
A place to get away from it all.

Hotel Camões: In the heart of Ponta Delgada

Very friendly people! In a little Hotel I've found the reason of the 4 stars. The restaurant it's opened for dinner till 10,00 p.m. We were far away and the road was closed near Vila Franca do Campo - it was 8,30 p.m. Local people had told me that they were celebrating a religious parade, and, perhaps we had to be two or more hours stopped. I've phoned to Hotel asking for a little more time to dinner. With a sincerly laugh they said that we could arrive at 12,00 p.m. When we have arrived, the restaurant's manager told us that he had prepared a B plan: our food was hot, over our beds. Very nice people indeed!

Argonauta: Best place to stay in Flores

Argonauta is a guesthouse in Faja Grande, the most beautiful place in Flores and the westmost point of Europe. It's a traditional old house run by a charming Italian (who also speaks English and French) called Pierluigi who is very knowledgeable about the island (has written several books) and will take you on off-road tours, sea-kayaking round the coast and organise a trip to Corvo (neighbouring island) for you. Even if you're used to staying in "posh hotels" as we are, I would recommend Argonauta over the Hotel Occidental in Sta Cruz as it looks a bit pedestrian.

But we wont be going back to Argonauta - we love Flores so much, we've bought a house there!
