Not only can I not stand most hotels, but in a place as small and home-like as in Ponta Delgada, some larger ones seem to be closed in the off-season, which is only understandable. I always look for apartments, either from Sweet Home Abroad or other rent-directly-from-owner types of services. My apartment was cozy, had a nice bed and a sofa, plus a full kitchen, so I could have breakfast before heading out and not feel crammed into a corner with my laptop at night. The host, Eleutério, is superb - welcoming, knowledgeable and treats his guests as his friends.
If you are looking for a private accomadation, I advise you the following addresses which are well located in town. The first one is very well located, just close to the avenue along the sea.
Maria Goretti Tavares
Rua Teófilo de Braga
Eduarda do Espírito Santo Rodrigues Nunes
Rua Eng. José Canto Resende, 10
They offer a reasonable service for a cheap price.
Location is good.
This building was a convent, and is located in a quite place. At your right side is located António Borges Garden, and Parque Atlântico commercial centre is about 500 m away.
Only 5 minutes of walking distance takes you to downtown.
They offer a very good service!
Excellent Service, nice clean hotel..a little dated in the interier but it was just a place to stay for us, nice big bathroom.. the only thing we didn't like was how far away it was from the centre of town(Ponta Delgada) it was on the other side of the island but it's scenery can't be beaten with a view of the ocean and a small beach right next to it(i'll have to scan in some pictures eventually :) )
Has a pool..and beach next to it, our room faced the ocean but any view would be nice, the there is nothing but woods around it so it's a lovely settiing :)
