Casas da Lapa: true gem
We have stayed in Casas da Lapa for four nights on April 2011.
Casas da Lapa was a very pleasant surprise. Although we were expecting to find a good hotel, we were very well impressed with the sophistication and confort of the rooms and common areas. The staff made us feel at home. Great food, amazing walks in the forest around the village, nice views ... We will return!
Very large beds, hydromassage in all rooms, iPod, internet, nice views, buffet breakfast without limit hour, very friendly staff, ecologically certificated hotel.

Pensao o Pastor: place with character and comfort
I was wanting to go cheaper and stay at youth hostel prices but had to relent and face facts that it was getting late and this place was well recommended in my guide book - a family run pension for the last 40 years.
They werent into haggling and their price including breakfast was pretty good for 35 euro - they seemed a very pleasant couple - checked out the room up the 3 storeys to my like penthouse with enclosed patio all to myself too.
Was getting pretty cold even though only October but the room was warm, and a heater was provided and the water was nice and hot. Plenty of bedding and TV.
Kind and pleasant people - made me a pot of tea after i arrived as i was parched and weary and needed a perk up!!
Excellent views the next morning - with cloudless sky certainly helping! - and excellent breakfast in the salon with wood stove and tv to see what was happening in Fatima where i had planned to be by then!
Even got to buy some good cheese of the recommended Serra cheese from the area in the small shop.

Pensao o Pastor: place with character and comfort

Eurosol Camelo: Always my favorite
This is one of the best places to stay, for those who come to the Serra da Estrela from the north.
The hotel is comfortable, well priced, and with an excellent restaurant service. I've been there for several times, and witnessed the improvements in quality (and… price).

Camping Valhelhas: Camping in the Nature
Really nice campground in the middle of the nature. It's a small park and very quite. It's a good choice for a few days in a calm place. Around the park there are many beautiful places to visit.
In the park, WC's are clean and hot water is free. You only must pay attention to the ground in spring as there are some flowers that stay all over the place and may smudge your tent. I suggest you to put some protection under your tent, like a raincoat.
It has a river beach during summer with a bar. Waters are really clean, but also cold, because it's only a few miles from the river source.
There's also a cheap and friendly restaurant in the camping. I recomend it.

This was the photo i took when i wake up after a snowing night.
Just beautiful!!!
I love snow; perhaps because I don’t have may chances to see it often. Where I live I just remember one time snowing on the town. Some people thinks that in Portugal never snows, but they are very wrong, in places like this it snows a lot.
I have to return some time without snow because it is amazing as well.

My room
The hotel room has good conditions, TV, phone, private bathroom and a great view.
A very very important thing is all the rooms have heating; in the middle of the snow it is goooooooooooooooooooooood.
And i almost forgot, a bottle of water and a chocolate expecting you, take a look at the pic.

INATEL Serra da Estrela
The Inatel Serra da Estrela is located in a quiet zone, between mountains, it has a restaurant, bar with animation, cocktails service and coffee breaks and tennis court.
It is not far from the town of Manteigas. There are available 63 rooms in four buildings. I stayed at the Thermal building.

Mélia Confort D. Maria: Several options
All through the mountain you may find several options for accommodation, ranging from luxury inn to youth hostel and camping grounds. To explore Serra da Estrela we used Covilhã as our base and stayed at the Mélia Confort D. Maria, a very comfortable 3 star hotel.

arriving at the outskirts of the town called Seia a small cosy motel runned by a funny and friendly couple, with 1001 stories to share with yu at dinner table if yu want.
not to much expensive and with confortable rooms and a small bar at the entrance with a hot fire worming a cold day playin' in the snow.
