The location is great, I cannot argue otherwise: right next to the beach. But the overall state of the hotel is not worth 3 stars in Europe. The food is very average and very greasy.

If anyway you want to go to the Hotel Plaža in Herceg Novi, then:

1) Pay in advance so you don't get ripped off the next morning
2) DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PASSPORT TO THE RECEPTION!

A trip to a bygone era

Perhaps a favourite package holiday hotel in the 1970s and 80s, the Hotel Plazha hasn't changed much since that era. It seemed very dated. And vast. Very vast. The long silent carpeted corridors and cavernous empty reception reminded me of The Shining. Admittedly, it was April, and not fully occupied...maybe in summer, it is more welcoming. My room was terrible. So terrible it was almost fantastic. But the views over the Bay of Kotor are spectacular, especially at sunrise.

Unique Quality: The night receptionist was very friendly and spoke excellent English.

I loved the aura of the hotel...wasn't sure whether to laugh or run away and hide.

Facilities include a swimming pool (empty with grass at the bottom), a beach (a patch of shingle with bathing platforms...water very clear though), a creaky lift, a stern breakfast waitress with an even creakier trolley, and a mysteriously named "Trim Kabinet".

It may seem overpriced for what it offers, but the Hotel Plazha is like a trip back in time and should maybe be treated as some sort of museum. My room set me back 30 Euros, but you can pay more if you like...

Herceg Novi biggest rip-off!

Hotel Plaža in Herceg Novi is the perfect example of the old-Communist-Titist style hotel-resorts built in the 60/70s, boasting 3 or 4 stars but which haven't been refurbished since. The overall conditions of the resort are appalling but they still ask for the price of a luxury hotel.

In addition to this, the manager is a natural robber! When we asked for the price of a room he said 33 euros per person in the so-called "renovated" part of the hotel and 20 euros in the "older" part. After having cheked both rooms we opted for the "old" one thinking that we could live without the new furniture and save a few bucks.

The room was indeed really ***ty, with real mushrooms growing on the dirty oozing walls!!! But nevermind we thought, it's cheap!

Well, it wasn't so cheap in the end: The next morning when we went to pay, the manager said with a smile on his face: It's 80 euros all together. WHAT !!!! But that's not what you said yesterday! He replied that our English was really bad because that's exactly what he said.

He used the fact that we had to give him our passports to get the keys to bully us. So we had no choice but to pay! This left such a bitter taste in the mouth that the whole stay in Montenegro was spoiled and we went straight back to Croatia. At least there you pay for what you get.

Good Old Hotel

This is a big 3*** Hotel very close to the beach. The accomodation is good. There are 560 beds on offer. Several terraces, summer gardens, indoor swimming-pool, trim cabinet, sauna, several congress and concert halls, rooms for meetings. Restaurant, tavern, grill-room, pizzeria, cafe, aperitive-bars, night bar. It is central heated at the winters and air conditioned at the summers.
