Kotor can be very hot and airless in summer
by hilg
Kotor is well worth visiting. The old town is beautiful and you can spend some very enjoyable days wandering around. The old walls going up the mountain behind the town are well worth climbing. Avoid midday - go as early as you can, or late in the afternoon, and do take plenty of water. It is quite strenuous.
The town is lovely, but, because it is at the end of a large inlet, and surrounded by mountains, we found it to be airless and it felt hotter than other places in Croatia and Montenegro because of that. A fan is useful, and also we found a small spray bottle filled with water helped a lot: spray it on your neck and wrists, then use your fan, and it helps to keep you cool. The Maritime Museum is interesting.
The defensive city
by d_d
As you can see in the map, Kotor is well fortifying at every side, by the fortress and by the bay.
Thanks to this kind of defence, Kotor was a very difficult place to be invased by enemies in the medievial ages, and later.
View of the Bay
by sandysmith
A favourite view of the Bay of Kotor was from the serpentine road as it winds its way up to Lovren. Just try and keep the camera steady as you swing around the corners - there are about 3 corners where you can get views like this so be ready!
clear, mirror water

The water in the bay can be so still, that you can mirror yourself in it, and sometimes it;s hard to tell what's the sky and what's the water reflection, it is amazingly bright and reflecting water. Sea is truly great there!
The Local Brew!
by pure1942
The beer of choice in Montenegro is one brewed in central Montenegro in the town of Niksic. The beer comes in several varieties, with Niksicko Pivo and Nik Gold the most popular. The difference between the two is supposedly that the 'gold' is export quality...but I didn't really notice a huge difference myself expecpt that the 'gold' can be more expensive! There is also a dark variety called Nicksicko Tamno.
