Cruiseline in Kotor 8am-5pm on May 5th

by kochbo

I am in Kotor for about 8 hours in early May. What would be the best places to visit - close to Kotor or a place where we can take other transportation?

Kotor itself is lovely, you should certainly plan on spending time there to explore the city, walk the length of some of the walls at least for the spectacular views.

Climb to the top [or as far has you like] of the mountain. The climb is mostly rough steps which start in the centre of kotor town. An old lady charges a small amount for entry to steps near the start, it took me 2 and half hours and was in my 60"s. Terrific view. If its hot remember to take a bottle of water .I was glad of the bar at the bottom.

First hour you should spent in Kotor old town.
There are many interesting historical places and monuments.
After, the best solution is to rent a car, you can visit the most part of Montenegro coast and some of interesting continental places, just for 8 hours, and trust me there are a lot of beautiful places which you should visit.I suggest you to go on south and make round trip, from Kotor to Budva, after Petrovac and Bar.From Bar you can go to Podgorica ( near Podgorica is beautiful Skadar lake ) it is capitol of Montenegro. From Podgorica go to Cetinje it is old capitol place with many interesting places and things ( christian monastery frm 13-th century, part of Jesus Christ's cross , right hand of saint Johan etc..) and from Cetinje to Kotor by old road. For all of that you will spent abt 6-7 hours.

Travel Tips for Kotor

Kajmak

by ruki

Kajmak is the brend of Serbia and Montenegro . Extremely tasteful and a rich dairy product which in Balcan, also called “skorup”, is something that you have to taste. The way in which it is prepared for centuries is the same – after from a boiling milk you take of the “kajmak”(creamy cheese), it is put in the wooden tubs where during the time a creamy mass is being created with a rich and somewhat sour taste, depending on the length of standing. It is eaten as a part of the cold snack, and often you will find it in the fast food restaurants where it is being eaten with a small flat bred and in the main course with the grilled meat (pljeskavica and cevap- kebab).

Entering Kotor

by karenincalifornia

Old town Kotor is encircled by walls, which are twice the length of the walls around Dubrovnik in Croatia. Kotor has three entry points - northern, southern and main.

This picture was taken at the Main Entrance to old town. Only foot traffic is allowed inside the walls. Once inside, you'll find yourself in a wonderfully romantic medieval city made up of a maze of streets and plazas filled with outdoor cafes.

Day of Liberation

by karenincalifornia

Kotor, like many of the cities on Boka Kotorska, has been under many different rulers. Since its beginnings, the city of Kotor has been under 14 different rulers and occupiers.

During World War II, the Axis powers occupied Kotor, which in turn gave birth to a resistance movement by partisan forces. Above the main entrance to Kotor is a stone commemorating the date the Germans left Kotor - 21 November 1944.

The beauty of Kotor

by karenincalifornia

Kotor's location makes this city one of the most stunningly beautiful cities in Montenegro. It sits on the shore of the Bay of Kotor, and at the foot of Mt. Lovcen.

The city dates back to Illyrian and Roman times. Today the municipality of Kotor (which includes neighboring towns - suburbs, if you will) is home to 23,481 people.

Ciborij

by Aurorae

This ciboriu is made of stone, and it is inside the Kotor cathedral. It was made in 14th century and on it are represented scenes from life of St. Tripun. In the back there is a silver gilded pala (don't know the name in English!), it's a master piece of Kotor's goldsmiths.
