Square of seven streets
At the end of Kralja Milana Street is Slavija square or driver’s nightmare. Seven streets comes to this square. The circular crossing, with the vehicles coming from every direction is really a challenge for new drivers. Until the 1880 the zone where the square now stands was a swamp where people went wild duck hunting. When Francis Mackenzie a English businessman, bought a large piece of terrain just uphill from the present day square and divided it into building lots he sold, the development of the zone started. Even today this part of Slavija is called Englezovac (Englishmans). For a certain period the square bore the name of Dimitrije Tucovic - a famous leader of the socialist movement in Serbia. His grave and monument still stands in the very center of the square. Here you can see Hotel Slavija – old Part, New modern wing of it called Slavija lux and for those who loves fast food here is McDonalds too.
