Hotel Lepenski Vir: The Only Hotel in Town
There are only two options for accommodation in Donji Milanovac: private accommodation, or the Hotel Lepenski Vir.
The hotel is huge – 115 rooms – sited on a hill above town, with a commanding view of the Danube. You’d never know it from below, but it’s a busy place. Events (conferences, symposia) appear to be frequent, the national sports teams stay there for practice and relaxation, and some small international sports competitions are held there too. There are regulation playing fields, a full-size pool, and workout space. There are also conference rooms, a health and wellness spa (although no massage), a hairdresser, souvenir shop, convenience store, and apparently a disco (which would be the only one in Donji Milanovac). Wifi is only available in the lobby, and there are about a dozen computers there for use.
The restaurant is big too, really meant for group functions, although a bit crowded when set up for one. Service was fine, friendly and low key. I was there early, very few people, but they were expecting a large group later and it didn’t look like they had enough people for that. My veal medallions with mushrooms was excellent, with the only lettuce salad I’ve found in town. The whole meal was nearly twice the cost of dinner in town, though. The buffet breakfast (included in the room rate) is also served in the restaurant, with a decent selection, if heavy on the meat and cheese.
The whole place is nice enough, and its three star rating is about right. The room was clean, but dusty (there’s a lot of detail in the woodwork), and everything is worn. From the outside it looks like whole sections aren’t in use at all. It’s got the best view in town, though.

Private Accommodation: Alternative to the Hotel
There are only two options for accommodation in Donji Milanovac: the Hotel Lepenski Vir, or private accommodation. Private accommodation is almost all booked through the Tourist Info Center. You tell them what you want, and they match your request to what’s available around town. What’s available ranges from homestays (rooms in a house with the owner) to furnished apartments for 2-6 people; it might have a balcony overlooking the river, or a garden tucked into a quiet back street (the pictures are a small sample). They can find you a place for a day or for a month. The general consensus among everyone I talked to is that private accommodation is better quality, and generally a better experience, than the hotel. I stayed a night at the hotel, and agree.
Everyone related to my two accommodations - Info Center, owners, the neighbors - was extremely helpful, from chartering a boat for sightseeing, to arranging daily home-cooked meals.
