Hostel Nis: Friendly place in friendly city
Stayed for a night in a 2 bed private room. There was no bathroom ensuite but as there were not so many staying at the same time, there were no problems to get access to the facilities across the hall. Staff very helpful with travel advice.
Unique Quality: Very close to the old town and to the old prison camp.
A nice outdoor cafe/bar with 20% discount on already low prices.

Sweet hostel: Nice place right in the center
We had this place booked as we came, and were welcomed by the landlady. A nice lady who made us feel welcome. We rented an appartment for one night and paid 32€ in all. There was a big bed, 2 couches, tv, big bathroom and a kitchen with everything needed. It was 5 mins walk from the main pedestrian area.
Unique Quality: Very central and reasonable price.

Downtown Hostel.: Ignore the outside.
Slightly an odd title for a tip I know but I refer to the badly graffittied outside of the building that houses the downtown Hostel. Evidently, sales of aerosol paint cans in Nis must be at an all time high. This is a real shame bacause the building is apparently one of the oldest in Nis and were it not defaced like this would be very pleasant. Once inside, it is a much different story with a clean, friendly hostel complete with common room and communal kitchen. The beds are comfortable in a mixed dorm.
There are all the usual trimmings available in such hostels now, aircon, free wifi throughout, individual lockers, no curfew, cable TV, and with sheets and towels included. It is very conveniently placed and certainly recommended.
Unique Quality: Nothing unique, just a good cheap hostel option.

Panorama Lux: good choice
A review for a hotel where I arrived after dark and left at 9am...
Well, I had a huge room with a huge balcony (shared with the room next door). I had a huge beer when I arrived and a huge breakfast in the morning.
It is a typical “private” hotel in a place like this. Private meaning not state owned and not part of a national/multinational chain.
It was not perfect - a hint of the previous occupants‘ smoking habits and an iron shaped burn in the carpet - but otherwise what I was expecting.
Aircon, minibar, swimming pool, wifi, TV, secure parking, fab city views (it’s on the hill to the south of the city, in the suburbs) ...
All for €60 inc.
Unique Quality: value for money; quiet location

Hostel Nis
We stayed two nights in a private double room of Hostel Nis, which we had booked in advance through Hostelworld. The room cost 33 Euro per night.
The hostel offers two double rooms, two four bed dormitories and one eight bed dormitory on two storeys. Each floor has a shared bathroom with toilet and a seperate toilet.
A large common kitchen is available as well. The reception area with a free internet PC is staffed around the clock.
Our room was very clean and furnished simply. We especially enjoyed the very central location of the Hostel as well as the friendly and helpful staff.

Ambassador: City centre hotel
Large tower block hotel on the main square, a perfect location. Room comfortable and aircon a bonus with a great view too.
Buffet breakfast included in the reasonable price.
Booked our stay through "visit Serbia" no problems at all, enjoyed our short stay here.

Ambassador Hotel: Retro, but not so chic
The Ambassador is not hard to miss when you come into central Nis: its across from the Fortress in Liberty Square (Trg Oslobodenja). The hotel is a hulking grey mass that rises above the city skyline. The rooms are clean but old and the amenities are basic, with only some rooms (deluxe rooms) with air conditioning. The hotel is built such that the windows either face east or west and thus you cannot escape the sun. Nevertheless, the staff is quite friendly and speaks English, there is free internet in the café in the lobby and the rooms are comfortable enough. Given that there are limited accomodations in Nis, and almost no other budget accomodations, the Ambassador is an ok hotel. Rooms start at about 3200 RSD per person per night.
Unique Quality: The elevator. Its ancient and taking it requires blind faith in the operating mechanism. One time it opened between floors and I had to repeatedly press the button for the floor above before it opened at an actual floor.

The Regent Club: In a heart of a city!
What to say... First impression - The Regent Club is lovely, confusing place situated in business centre in a heart of Nis. U would never guess that there is a hotel in there! And other way, very pleasent, peacefull and comfortable. It's a 4 stars hotel, regular prices comparatively with other 4stars hotels in Nis. Rooms are extra. I even wanted to buy their pillow, never found better. And hidromassager will decidedly fix U up! Hotel has extra national / international restourant. Realy exclusive ambient and great normal prices! They have so rich menu, and lasagnas are mmmmmmmm.... And don't miss cheese cake for desert! Sweeter than it sounds! U can take a look on web site, but there is no english version unfortunatelly! After triple w it comes: regentclub.com
Unique Quality: No pool, no great views. But... for all that rooms are still 4 stars! Hotel has it's own parking, and U can get out directly on main promenade on other side (throughout business centre). Everything is near the Regent Club hotel! Great for going out and recognizing city of Nis!
For business people may be intersting that hotel has Conference room with all tech equippement.
Aperitiv bar as part of restourant is great for chilling. They have cuban cigars and great coctails! And for even more relaxed chilling moments U can just get downstears and go out to mail promenade. So many street cafes which are always full of people. Like noone goes to work and like the whole Serbia is relaxing and drinking whole day long... Serbian girls are delicious!

Hotel "Ambasador": Hotel "Ambasador"
Ambasador is a classical commie hotel, totally socialist style :)), and that is fantastic because the atmosphere is great, cozy and friendly, people (the staff) are fantastic and very funny, with the sense of humour, and the rooms are nice, food is fabulous (it can't be different in the south of Serbia!) and everything is tremendous. Maybe it's not as classy as hotel "Aleksandar", but I definitely prefer it, because of the atmosphere. Also, it is in the very heart of the city, while Aleksandar is quite off the beaten path. i adored my stay in Ambasador!!!

Hotel "Ozren": Hotel "Ozren"
I stayed in this hotel for couple of days since there was no room in Nis itself, but it was a very rewarding experience, since the nature is very exuberant, and the hotel is in the midst of the forest. The staff is very kind and although it's not a luxurious place (in spite of ***), it was very pleasant to stay inside! THe only trouble is immense acoustics, you can hear everything in other rooms. :)) But the place is really nice. The food is FANTASTIC!!!!
The price indicated is for sleeping and all three meals! It's very cheap - only 18 euros!!!
