Gura Humorului
Gura Humorului is a small town in the Romanian province of Moldavia ("Moldova" in Romanian, but not to be confused with the Republic of Moldova). It can be reached by frequent trains from Suceava.
Gura Humorului is good as a base for exploring the many monasteries of the area, many of which have paintings on the outside as well as inside. These monasteries generally date from the 16th century.
The accompanying photo shows the monastery called "Humor"., built in 1530. The paintings on the outside depict the Last Judgment, and the Siege of Constantinople, among others. The paintings on this monastery are faded compared with those of the Voronet monastery, also near Gura Humorului (see my photo of the Last Judgment on its exterior under 'Must See' activities).
