 | Romania Reviews | Tips 71 - 80 of 131 | | If visiting the Merry Cemetery in Maramures, I really recommend Perla Sigheteana in the town of Sighetu Marmatiei. Sapanta, the village where Merry Cemetery is located, is a short taxi drive away, and the hotel is inexpensive, in a picturesque village and friendly. When we stayed, there was a wedding downstairs that was colorful and loud.
The rooms are very clean, the water is hot and the service and good. The view is beautiful, and the atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. The restaurant isn't terribly exciting, however. Leave a Comment

Beke's was friendly, although very bare minimum. The beds were not too comfortable, and the water cold, but the location is ideal and the price is around $15 for a double bed. If possible, avoid staying in the overpriced and unfriendly generic hotels in smaller towns and villages, including Brasov. (Actually, you are sometimes left with little options in really small towns!) Homestays or pensions are easy to find, and are usually around 10-15euro a night for a double bed in someone's home.
Beke's is listed in Lonely Planet, but they glorify the home. The courtyard is totally charming, with sheep skin being cured outside when we were there, but isn't really anywhere to hang out and it didn't have a "Mediteranian air" as Lonely Planet suggested. Overall, its totally bare, cheap and to the point. Leave a Comment Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Brasov

I would recommend this guesthouse for it's beautiful surroundings, friendly and helpful management, great hospitality and close proximity to Sibiu and all points around. Doina Cioran cooked for us our first traditional Romanian fare with snitzel, which we discovered was much like chicken fried steak, and polenta. I have to admit, I'm not a polenta fan, but my husband certainly enjoyed the liquid fire the Romanian people enjoy before dinner.
It's quiet, perfect for a traveling couple who don't want to stay in a place filled with children or young travelers who like to party. Rasinari does have a "disco" and it was pretty cool to watch from its window a trail of cows just walking down the cobblestone streets at dusk. Heading toward home, I guess. Doina also washed our road-wearing clothes for us and hung them up in the courtyard to dry. During my week in Romania, I stayed in the home of local people maybe 5 or 6 nights. I highly recommend this because not only do you help the local economy but you also get a chance to see how the local people live. This accomodation is easy to find and is available in many villages with a agrotourism sign posted on the outside wall of the home. Usually homes with this sign have set aside a room or two for guests. It is possible to stay with someone who does not have a sign too. In village of Bundesti I asked some of the locals for directions to a place to sleep and I met a friendly woman who offered me a place to stay in her home. My girlfriend and I were the first tourists to stay in her home. She was very hospitable and friendly and she did not ask for money in return. However, we made sure to leave her money before we left. Actually I wasn't staying in a hostel in Romania, but still if you plan to go budget travelling this is the second cheapest way. I only saw one Hostel in Romania - it was Retro Hostel in Cluj, str. Potaissa 13 - and it was really nice, with facilities such as bathrooms and internet. For further details see: www.HIhostels-Romania.ro

Clean and comfortable. Not a luxury hotel but very reasonable about $50 US per night a double room 2 single beds including traditional breakfast. Supposed they have an "evening traffic" but we saw no evidence of this. The only way to truly see Romania's landscape is to drive with no clear stopping point in mind. People hang signs in front of their homes with a symbol on it if they are set up for bed and breakfast type accomodations. Every place I stayed in was clean and the hosts were always friendly. The only problem I ran into was one night waiting a little too late to try and find somewhere to stay. Negotiate with your hosts as there is almost never a set price in mind. We had three people in two or three bedrooms for no more than 25 dollars a night. Breakfast is a feast, so wake up hungry :)
