Find the hidden window
by Mique
Some parts of the citadel are really old. And sometimes you can find clear evidence of it. In one of the houses in the citadel you can find embedded in the wall the part of an old window. But it has sagged down a lot. The new window has build partially over it byut most of the old window frame has been preserved.
Journey to Transylvania

"Geneology Research"
I traveled hear in order to do research about my ancestors. Otherwise there is not so much here from a tourist perspective. There is a nice castle to walk around, but not much else. I was fortunate to stay in a Hungarian guest house which kept costs down. It was very nice with private room, shared bathroom, and a kitchen to use.

Alba Iulia
by Mique
Alba Iulia wasn't the first place on my list to visit. But then i heard it has a citadel and that it was one of the most important cities in Transsylvania. So i had to go there. Unfortunately the old town has been flattened by Ceaucescu and the city isn't very appealing. Luckily he left the citadel and its buildings inside alone.
It was in Alba Iulia that in 1918 the treaty was signed that joined Transsylvania and Romania. So for the Romania we know today, Alba Iulia is of great significance
VT-member Dunemaire was so nice to be my guide around Alba Iulia. Thanks Andrea and Timi

The pics shown here are taken by mique, used with her permission.
The 1st of december is Romania's national day, comemorating the fact that in 1918 they held a huge gathering with people from all over Transilvania here , and they signed Transilvania's union with the rest of Romania.
You can see lots of folk dances, listen to folk songs, hear some more "modern " bands playing, drink hot wine with spices , eat pork/ beef/ sheep fried on a stake , look at the fireworks and generally have a good time.
