Travel Tips for Pitesti

...city...

by alirom

Pitesti, city in south central Romania, capital of Arges County. Pitesti is located on the Arges River about 110 km (about 70 mi) northwest of Bucharest, the country's captial. Pitesti has one of Romania's largest auto-assembly plants, which in 1968 began assembling the Dacia, the country's leading make of automobile. Pitesti also has one of Romania's largest petrochemical complexes. Other industries manufacture footwear and wood products. The city is an important rail junction. Attractions here include an art museum, a history museum, and a church built in the 1600s. Excavations in Pitesti, conducted in the 1970s during the construction of new housing, revealed tools and ornaments of the Neolithic period (between 7000 and 2000 BC) as well as ancient Dacian and Roman coins. Pitesti was first documented in 1388 as a trading center. Population (1997 estimate) 187,181.

Pitesti- city of tulips

by Carpathian_devil

"Really really enchanting"

Probably in this page I will be a little subjective because of the fact that my father is from around the zone, but if I talk from the opinion of many other Pitesti is an enchanting place. Every year in spring there is a flower festival called "Simpfonia Lalelor" which means "Tulip Symphony" where there are exposed all sorts of tulips, of different colours, sizes and....prices ;)

There many to talk about Pitesti.
The first impression this city, town whatever...gives you is that of a developed place, a very clean spot and with really kind people, and thats the truth. Regarding sightseeing..hmm ...well this has the image of a new city althoug it has over 600 years, but you can visit the Royal church from downtown, The Art's Museum, The County Museum and above all you can go to Curtea de Arges, a small peacefull town at about 40 km noth from Pitesti to see Curtea de Arges Monastery which has the most beatifull Orthodox curch from Romania and there you can also visit the Royal Court...but more about Curtea de Arges in the page deidcated for this town :D

This is the Statue of Mircea cel Batran- king of Wallachia
