i plan to visit oradea soon fron great britain and i would be very grateful indeed if anyone can tell me how to get there from budapest (where my plane is landing) by train and how much it would cost.

Nobody answered you yet, so I'm writting you some info I got from a friend which recently came from Budapest to Cluj.
in front of the airport you should find kinda tourisdt office. they can arrange an minibus taxi for you. Ask them for a Nyugaty Railway Station Taxi. It cost about 2300 Huf, that's about 10 euro. As far as I know..there is a train arround 4 PM which goes to Cluj. There are others that I don't know (not sure but I think there is one arround 10 AM)... first class ticket to Cluj is about 60 euro (yak...to much..hope the info is wrong,over rated) . Consider that Oradea is closer to Budapest and the first class ticket should be cheaper. Also traveling second class could be much cheaper then first class .
there are minibuses direct from airport to Oradea. You may have a chance to find an available place. Price should be up to 20 euro (maybe less).

It is very customary to bring a small gift when visiting someone's home. This does not have to be a large or extravagant gift, just something small that shows a nice gesture or thought. I like to bring candy, coffee or a little gift from my city. I assure you that when ever you visit a home you will be offered something to eat or drink (palinka) :-) I also like to send photos from my visit to them when I return back to the US.
This old curch that was planned by Szenczy Istvan in 1772 is one of the oldest buildings on the beautiful Republici boulevard. The building also operates as a high school that called after the famous poet Ady Endre.
Today the building need a lot of renovation.
My favorite thing about it its the night view, it is lighted in a special way... i saw it a lot from my hotel window by night... :))
Cladirea a fost construita in anul 1905 dupa planurile fratilor Vago. De obicei, ne informeaza Peter I. Zoltan, Vago Jozsef se ocupa de partea de arhitectura, pe cind fratele cel mare, Laszol, era cel care proiecta partea ornamentala: vitralii, sgraffito, feronerie, sculpturi. Cei doi frati sint autorii a altor doua cladiri din Oradea. Vila Darvas-La Roche.
Tot de sub mina lui Rimanovzy Kalman au iesit si planurile de constructie ale palatului Moskovist, situat vis-a-vis de Palatul Apollo. Aceasta cladire a fost inaltata intre anii 1904-1905. Interesant este de stiut ca la construirea ei s-au folosit in premiera in Oradea placi cu nervuri de beton armat, tehnica fundamentata teoretic in 1892 de Francois Hennebique. Structura de rezistenta cu placi de beton a fost proiectata de inginerul Zielinsky, profesor universitar din Budapesta.
Every thursday the philharmonic gives an performance. Usually it starts at 19.00 hours. The performances are very good and i've attended several so far. Often, though not always, they have guest performeers. Tickets costs 90.000 lei (around 3 euro) for the normal seats. 130.000 (around 5 euro) for the balcony ones.
