helo am planning to come to oradea soon, but i want to know whether ill have to pay to receive calls(on my mobile) from other countries. n if yes how about much?thnx

Yes you will pay receive calls on your mobil from other country. Is called roaming. The price is fixed by your mobile phone company. Ask them.

The best thing is to buy a simcard there. Preferably prepaid with a 10 dollar card. As calling and sending smses is way cheaper, and the costs for recieving are next to none. Sms is about 7 dollarcents and sms by Orange Romania.

Travel Tips for Oradea

Synagoge

The synagoge in Oradea is no longer in use and has a very unkept look. Somewhere in the past decades the use of this synagoge was abolished and the current state it is in is so bad it isn't even open anymore. Very unfortunate since it looks like a very intriguing building.

And while all churches are renovated, this synagoge isn't high on the list of buildings to keep. So it looks a bit forlorn alongside the river

When you want to visit this synagoge you can do so daily between 11-13 and 14-17. There is an old man who will let you in to see it. When i went to see this synagoge i wanted to see if there was some sort of back entrance. So i followed the row of houses that is build next to the synagoge. And from the corner of my eye i thought i saw a car parked inside the house.. so i checked again.. and yes, more then one. Behind the facade of several normal looking houses was a car dealers shop..

Mititei - Romanian food - You must try this.

Very good Romanian food. You can find it anywhere, in any restaurant. You must try this. You can also prepare it for yourself on pic-nick as you can see on the photos bellow. Usually the Romanians fry some mititei instead of a barbecue.

Nice sandwich place

Faustos has good sandwiches. Even though it was a bit difficult the first time to make a choice My romanian wasn't good enough to read the menu.. so i just pointed at something that looked vaguely familair in name. Luckily the second time there was someone who spoke a bit of english.. This was last year. The menu has been updated and there is a whole lot more on it now. It isn't my favorite place except in summer when you can sit on the terrace and watch everybody going by. Especially since inside one can usually see (older) men eyeing the women. It is a sort of ' dating' place for this. So just go when it is either almost empty or when the terrace is out.

And it also has this nice terras from which you have a view of calea republicii and the piata regele ferdinand

Oradea has a very nice Theatre , parks , and a very very nice museum . Also the surounding area is beautyfull ...The Transilvanian Alps are offering one of the most carstic regions in Europe .There you can see one of the most beautifull caverns from Europe including the longest one (called the Wind Cavern )
