1. The city is reasonably safe.

2. Rent starts at about €100/month (for a studio).

3. The university's reputation is rather bad.

4. Mobile phone subscriptions start at €4/month, internet also starts around €4-5/month.
Check these sites for specific offers (the first four for for mobile telephony/wireless internet, the last two for simple internet):

I was a doctor in Oradea, have an apartment there, not too far from the University. My mother used to live there, she is now in the US with me . I have a phone, you can also have a US nimber, US account ant get calls, or call anywhere, just as if you were in America. My name is Elisabeth, I live in California, where are you from? I just assumed you are from the US.Waiting for your reply, blessings.

Travel Tips for Oradea

Nice little stay

by actor22_2000

the people, easy to get around. This really is a nice place to use as a base camp during your travels to Transylvania. Just watching the people enjoy life no matter how hard it is. It really puts things in line for you by visiting.

1/3 Hungarian

by deeper_blue

Oradea located on the Hungarian border has a large amount of Hungarian/ Magyar's living here.
They seem to get on peacefully enough there, virtually every sign is written in Romanian and Hungarian.
Oradea is presented with Hapsburg style architecture and has the river Crisul Repede running through it.

Ady si Oradea

by oradea_dream

Ady Endre a trait si creat in Oradea vreme de vreo patru ani. In rastimpul acela el a iubit foarte mult femei de tot felul. Acestea l-au iubit si ele la rindul lor. In final, iubirea i s-a dovedit fatala.

- walking along the river "Crisul Repede"

by Gabor1965

the river Crisul Repede (Sebes Koros) cut the city in two parts, so you can walk along the river "Crisul Repede" from one end of the city to the other end.
- you can start your walk at the Hotel Continental, on the right side of the river, or you can started at "Silvas", see more details in one of my travelogs with the tittle: "Walking along the river Crisul Repede"

Theatre and the Ferdinand Square ( Bémer Square)

by Gabor1965

State Theatre (1900); displays the neoclassic style on the outside and the baroque style on the inside. In the Ferdinand Square ( Bémer Square) you will find the most famous restaurants like: Astoria(Emke) , Transilvania(), Oradea (Royal), .... and there are a lot of new reastaurants in the area like: Kellys Irish Pub, Faustozo, ,,,,,,
