A room in the centre of Brasov

by Alice47

I have been searching the internet for hours now, for a single room in Brasov for a reasonable price but am coming up blank. Everywhere seems so expensive. Don't really want a dorm situation. Can anyone help, please? What I would really like is a room with a family. Maybe someone knows somebody who lets rooms in their house.

Hi, did you try these webpages?

I hope this help. Good luck in Romania. And remember, Brasov (Brasso in Hungarian) is in the famous Transylvania part of todays Romania, once part of the Hungarian Kingdom, the home of the oldest hungarian people called seklers. An ancient hungarian culture as is the city itself.

Thank you for your answer but as I said I have been searching the internet, hence my question on here. I did all that before posting the question. So again, if anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Places to stay but the charges to a foreigner seem high. I have travelled to many cities in Eastern Europe but prices in Brasov seem to be over the top

I see. I did not tell you anything new then. Sorry. If I come across something more useful, will post it here. Just a suggestion. What if you go for a place outside but near to Brasso? Little villages or small towns around perhaps? Did you try that? Good luck

Hi alice47. Don't know if it's any use to you, but have you tried http://www.couchsurfing.com/

Might not be quite what you're looking for, but it's a great way to meet locals, and use their help to find somewhere to your liking. You might even hook-up with someone who has a room.

When are you going? I'm off to Romania too, in June. Can't wait!

Good luck. Paul.

Hello!
Still looking for a place to stay? If you would consider living in Rasnov ( 12 km from Brasov) I might be able to help you.

Best regards,

Ana

Travel Tips for Brasov

See the main square in Brasov:...

by kek4la

See the main square in Brasov: Piata Sfatului.
In the middle of the square: Casa Sfatului, meaning the House of the Town Council, in rather bad translation:).
Actually this used to be something like that in the medieval period.
The square houses from time to time a music festival, a lot of talking around that, more than singing.

Poiana Brasov Resort

by JessieLang

Poiana Brasov is a tourist resort above the town. There is a lake in front of the big hotel, and it has plastic swans on it. (Low maintenance, I guess.) There is an old wooden church to look at, and good overviews of Brasov. In the winter it is a popular ski resort.

You can get there by road, or by cable car from Brasov if you don't mind some walking at each end.

Snagov: the burial place of Vlad Tepes

by midnight_mike

Vlad Tepes is buried in a church on an island on Lake Snagov, about 30 minutes northeast of Bucharest. The island used to be much larger than than it is now and had been fortified in the middle ages. There have been many legends and rumors about Tepes' death and burial, but this is most likely where he was buried. There are two spots in the tiny church where his body is believed to rest. Most visitors assume he was buried near the altar, but evidence suggests that he was buried near the entrance of the church. The priests were grateful that Tepes had donated so much money to the church, but they did not want his body to be too close to the altar. After all, he was guilty of many brutal murders.

To get to Lake Snagov, you will either have to rent a car, hire a driver, or take a bus from Bucharest into the town. From there, you can either rent a row boat or be driven in a motor boat. Once you get there, find the caretaker living on the island to let you into the church.

If you are truly fascinated with Tepes' life and legend, I recommend visiting this site. Otherwise, there are better places to visit in Romania.

My favourite restaurant:...

by Roxana_Const

My favourite restaurant: 'Cetatea'-I love the location,on the top of a little mountain and I loved the atmosfere .The decor(lots of armors) and clasical music (used to be years ago) give this mediveal feeling and it was unusual for the times.Food and prices were not as important for me, as it was the ambiance.

Capra Neagra - Poiana Brasov

by HORSCHECK

Capra Neagra (Black Chamois) is a building complex consisting of a pizzeria, a restaurant and a discotheque. It is located in Poiana Brasov, a skiing resort just outside Brasov.

When we visited Poiana Brasov, we had a light lunch here. The restaurant consists of two very large rooms and a large outdoor terrace.

The furniture is kept functional. The place is probably very popular in the skiing high season.

The menu offers all sorts of local and international dishes. Pizza is available in the adjacent Pizzeria. I only had a beef soup (ciorba tar. vac) and a mineral water. The soup was yummy and warming on the wet cold October day. The bill for these two things was 10 RON (about 3 Euro, 2007).
