Churches in Brasov
by HORSCHECK
Most of Brasov's churches are listed in guide books, but for us it wasn't always easy to find at least basic details about the less known churches.
Information about most of the churches which we visited can be found under my "Things to do" tips.
Other churches we had a look at include the following ones:
The silver domed Romanian Orthodox church Buna Vestire is located at Nicolae Iorga street, just next to the northern end of the Central Park "Nicolae Titulescu" (Photo 1 and 2).
The small Romanian Orthodox church Cuvioasa Paraschiva is surrounded by a cemetery and can be found at Bicazului Street (Photo 3).
A German Protestant Church with an adjacent cemetery is situated in a courtyard of Prundului street. Access is only possible through a metal door from the street (Photo 4).
Hidden in a courtyard of the Gh. Baritiu Street is the Romanian Orthodox church Sf. Treime which was built in the late 18th century (Photo 5).
The local architecture in...
by Varvarino
The local architecture in Sinaia is quite appealing, both for squirrels and people. (Don't tell anyone, but this roof is a favorite of mine. I LOVE to slide down the roof. Now, I admit that there is an advantage to my size.... I don't think YOU could do it! heehee) I think that this is a very pretty place. How about you?
Sighisoara is a worthwhile daytrip from Brasov
by midnight_mike
Sighisoara was the birthplace of Vlad Tepes. This walled city, which was built on a series of hills, has remained intact for the past 500 years. The architecture is a blend of Romanian, Hungarian and German styles. Tepes’ home, which is not much of a sight compared to neighboring structures, was turned into a restaurant honoring him.
Sighisoara is about three hours away from Brasov by train.
Taxis in Romania
by HORSCHECK
Honestly speaking, I usually avoid taking taxis in Eastern Europe, because drivers almost always try to rip tourists off.
If for any reason you have to take a taxi, make sure that your hotel or a local person orders you the taxi. At least make sure that it is a taxi from one of the bigger reliable companies and that the taxi meter is switched on.
Taxis have the rates (base fee, price per km, price per hour) displayed on the outside of the car. When we were in Brasov the price per km was about 1,30 RON (October 2007).
Most of the Taxis in Romania are the local Dacia Logan cars.
