Eastern European Cars
by antistar
Brasov is famous for manufacturing planes, tractors and trucks, not automobiles, but there are plenty of old classics around the streets. Mostly they are old Dacias, especially the Dacia 1300. These are basically copies of the old Renault 12. But I did spot a few like this, which I didn't recognise at first. They are Dacia 1100, based on an even older Renault 8 design. This Renault was never sold in the UK so it was completely new to me.
The other one pictured is a Dacia 1300, in the same shade of grey as my dad's old Renault 12 estate. This one has a more modern make-over than the old Renault ever saw.
Events on the Council Hall Square
by Fam.Rauca
Many important events are there in the middle of the Council Hall Square in Brasov.
The place is a open-air stage, for numerous artists that come here and present their spectacle to the public.
The centre of the city is a good place for these shows.
Many artists from diverse countries and regions come here and entertain the people.
Inside the fort
by Aurorae
Râsnov is a picturesque and antique village, inside the fortress walls you'll find narrow cobbled streets with old houses, workshops and scenes from every day peasant life in old Romania. There are also souvenir shops and museum gallery.
To the Tampa mountain by cable car
by HORSCHECK
You can get to the summit of Brasov's Tampa Mountain by either walking or by cable car (Telecabina Tampa).
The cable car runs daily except Mondays from 10:00 h until 18:00 h. A return trip costs 8,00 RON (October 2007).
The base station can be found at Aleea Tiberiu Brediceanu; just 10 minutes walk south of the Town Hall Square (Piata Sfatului). The journey to the top station (960 m) at the Restaurant Panoramic takes only 2:20 minutes.
Please read my General Tip "Overview from Tampa Mountain" for more info.
Pizzeria Roma
by HORSCHECK
The restaurants Pizzeria Roma and Spaghetteria Venezia have the same owner. We visited them both during our stay in Brasov. One evening we chose Pizzeria Roma for dinner.
It has separate rooms for smokers and for non-smokers; which you might appreciate as smoking is still quite popular in Romania. The interior is equipped with wooden furniture and both Italian and Romanian decorations.
On warm days the large outdoor terrace is open.
The multilingual menu offers a wide variety of Pizzas which come in two sizes. In addition to this a selection of desserts is served as well.
I had a Pizza Quattro Stagioni and a Pint of local Ursus beer. The Pizza was nice, but not too exciting. Also I was a bit surprised that they didn't have any sharp Pizza knives available, but only normal blunt knives.
Maybe our expectations were a bit too high due to many very good reviews in most of the guide books. The bill was 19,70 RON (about 5,90 Euro, 2007).
