Seven Stairs Canyon

by agustiah

Hi, I will be in Brasov end of this month, and plan to do some hiking in 7 stairs canyon.

Is this place easy to reach from Brasov city centre? (I plan to stay in Hotel Ambient at the city centre). Any advice how to go to the 7 stairs cannyon from this hotel? are there any organised tour?

Hi Tiah

first you can read about 7 stairs canyon on the brasov page :

you can see al so map of piara mare and postavaru montain :

your hotel is at Aninoasa street nr.5

MAP 1:
MAP 2:

you nead to take the minibus from Bus Terminal nr' 1 [Autogara nr. 1]
it's near CFR train station at B-dul Garii nr. 5 [bulevard rarii nr' 5

you can see on the map it's on the intersection of
B-dul Garii with B-dul victoriei !

ask at the hotel reception which bus go to the train station.

you need to take the minibus [maxi taxi] who go the rute:
BRASOV - PREDAL/SINAIA/BUCHAREST and get off near CABANA "Dambul Morii"
it's before TIMISU DE JOS. on the road DN1/E60

all the best

Trip to Rasnov

Rasnov (German: Rosenau) is a small town which is located about 15 km southwest of Brasov and 15 km northeast of Bran on the road that links Wallachia and Transylvania.

The main sight of Rasnov is its fortress whose history dates back to the early 14th century.

It is situated about 200 m above the town and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

We liked Rasnov fortress much more than the touristy Bran Castle, but as both towns are located on the same road you can visit them both in one day.

Admission to the fortress costs 10 RON and for taking photos you have to pay an extra fee of 5 RON (October 2007). This is probably a tourist trap, but we were even checked for the ticket when we were taking photos.

Buses to Rasnov leave from Autogara 2 in Brasov. There are services almost every 30 minutes and the journey takes about 20 minutes. All buses to Bran also stop in Rasnov. A single ticket to Rasnov sets you back 2 RON (October 2007).

A cocktail bar, forgot it's...

A cocktail bar, forgot it's name
It's kind of rare in Romania a bar specialized in cocktails. The atmosphere is quite nice, cozy in way.
Here it was that i had my first and last incounter it the Bloody Mary.

Restaurant Butoiul Sasului

One evening we went to the restaurant Butoiul Sasului (Saxon Barrel) for dinner. It consists of various rooms in a red brick cellar vault.

All rooms are decorated with paintings and antiques from Romania. Sometimes live music (e.g. piano) is perfomed. An outdoor seating area is available in an inner courtyard.

The menu offers authentic Saxon and Transylvanian cuisine. I ordered porc (19,50 RON) with fried potatoes (6,50 RON), a colesaw salad (3,00 RON) and a bottle of local Ciuc premium Pils (4,50 RON).

The dish was excellent and with 33,50 RON (about 10 Euro, 2007) reasonably priced.

Just note, if you are sitting in the room with the piano, the piano player might sooner or later appear and start playing. If you are then sitting next to the piano conversation is almost impossible.

The main commercial street of brasov is striking distance from the old town highlites. Seems you can access most things here and stroll pleasantly with the sme caution asin any big town. Checkout the side streets as Architectural gems abound in fairly good condition.
