Train in Cluj-Napoca

Cluj - Chisinau
by JoeReaney
Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to get directly from Cluj to Chisinau, Moldova by bus or train. If so, can anyone tell me times/prices?
Many thanks!
Joe

There aren't any direct trains to Chisinau, but there might be some buses.
Anyway, it's better to go by train from Cluj to Iasi (the last major city before the border with Moldova) and then continue by bus from Iasi to Chisinau.
There are four trains daily between Cluj and Iasi, trip takes 8 - 9 hours and tickets start at about €15.

I am pretty sure there is no direct train or if there is something strange happens to it in Iasi.
I don’t think there is a direct bus, locals may know better but even if there is it would be a long bus journey in one stretch.
We took an overnight train to Iasi and went by road from there, it worked for us.

The site above says that a train leaves Cluj at 21.32 gets you into to Iasi 06.07.
We were already on the next train which leaves at 01.35 if you can sleep on the train this is maybe the best because it gets in to Iasi at 10.08 a good time to catch the bus.
There are a couple of trains which leave in the day, one gets you to Iasi a little late and the other gets you there very late:
According to the site below, you want a Maxi taxi to Chisinau which leave from outside the Billa supermarket and cost 6Eur.

Travel Tips for Cluj-Napoca
"Unirii" Square
by Fam.Rauca
The Unirii Square lies in the centre of Cluj-Napoca.
The most important building on this place is the St. Michael church and the rider monument of the king Matei Corvin.
The Unirii Square is surrounded from splendid, old buildings.
Some of it is:
Bánffy palace, today the art museum, erects 1773-1785
The Teleki palace, built 1790-1795
and others important edifice from the eighteenth century.
Buildings
by DPando
The tram electric lineas and the buildings fronts melt in the skyfront of the city ... nice time to make shots. cluj is a lively city full of people .. mostly young people in the streets or gather in malls drinking coffee (really cheap) ..nice people looking at you with your rucksack quite surprised cos its not a famous or more touristic town
My favorite restaurant in Cluj...
by tiganeasca about Varzarie
My favorite restaurant in Cluj is about as cheap and downmarket (un-fancy) as you can get. It is one step above a self-serve cafeteria, a little on the dingy side, and there are no amenities to speak of. But: if you like cabbage, and if you are particularly partial to the local specialty, varza a la Cluj (or varza clujeana), you will have to go quite a distance to do better than visit the friendly, cheap little restaurant known as Varzarie (which, I guess, translates to something like the 'Cabbage-erie'). Order the varza a la Cluj at a cost all of maybe USD $2. Filling. Wonderful walk on the simple, pleasant side....
