Constanta Historical Building

by rossirobertg

In 1914 King Ferdinand and Queen Marie tried to make a match for their son, Prince Carol, with the Grand Duchess Olga of Russia. The Russian Royal Family sailed from the Crimea to Constanta to meet the Romanian Royal Family. A Te Deum was held at St. Pual and Peter and a reception was hosted at a Pavillion that was built for the occasion. I don't know whether that Pavillion was a permanent structure and still exists or whether it was a temporary structure and no longer exists. I'm doing research for a paper and would really appreciate it if someone could give me the answer to this question. Any detail or website I could go to would be appreciated.
Thanks so much. I'm Robert Rossi at rossirobertg@aol.com if you have some information.

Hi!

here is a link that talks about the event, but it is in Romanian. They say about the visit an I rwote about the pavilion.

They say it was a provisory one buil in the harbour, on the pier where the Russian sheep arrived.

... there was built from wood a pavilion for reception at the pier...

I hope it is useful for you.

Cheers!!

Hi Robert,
I have a page from a Romanian newspaper from that days (first of June, 1914, Constanta) with four pictures. I see in this pictures both Romanian and Russian Royals Familyes, King Carol I, Prince Ferdinand, Queen Elizabeth, Tsar Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra, Grand Duchess Olga. I located the Grand reception in the front of Constanta Casino.
Cheers,
Sandu

Travel Tips for Constanta

Go shopping downtown, but also...

by Dalevd

Go shopping downtown, but also make sure to hit the road side tents that you can find beautiful paintings or handmade lace things.

The museums for sure and also take a walk along the Sea where the garrison is. Sitting on the beach at night and seeing the stars so bright. The great deals and beautiful things the people make.

Visiting and sitting in 3 different types of MIG's and watching them fly. Amazing.

The Archeological Park on the Ferdinand Boulevard

by Fam.Rauca

The Park is situated on the Ferdinand Boulevard.
It was made in the year 1963.
Here, there are the 600 metres long walls of the ancient fortress, and many ceramic pieces, and other ancient historic vestiges.
This is a big attraction for the many tourists that come here, to visit the old city and to see with their own eyes the enduring attestations of the history.
The Park lies between the Summer Garden Tomis and the edifice of the Municipal Library.

The oldest Greek settling in Romania

by ciuchi

Histria Fortress is located at 63 km away from Constanta and is the oldest attested Greek settling on the territory of Romania. It was founded in the 7th Century B.C bt the Greeks coming from Milet, Asia Minor. Here we can admire Aphrodite's Temple, Zeus's Temple, Roman baths, forums and other remais of the great civilizations developed on Pontus Euxin's (Black Sea, the way it was called in ancient times) shores.
The museum located there is also very interesting and I hope it's still in a good shape.

"You will find what are you looking for"

Sometimes the winter is very cold ... the sea is angry and the wind helps it to make a sad show ! But ...

... the summer comes and the town is extremely crowded .
It's very hot till October !
Now we dream to the winter .
Maybe just a little !
Don't believe me !
I don't like going to the beach , only swimming.
But ...

...come and see by yourself !
Maybe you'll love it !
Maybe not .
It depends what are you looking for :
new or old ,
poor or rich ,
good or bad ,
merry or sad ,
beautiful or ugly ,
clever or stupid ,
EVERYTHING
like in any other TOWN ,
like in any other COUNTRY !
Like I said :
do you know what are you looking for ?
...because we have everything "
