how do you get from odessa to constanta?

by kris30

my pal and I are going to be backpacking through ukraine to odessa in mid august. We want to experience the fun and sights at constanta romania but we're having a bit of trouble finding out how to get there, SO....

Question, whats the best way to get there, is it possible to go direct by rail, (ie not to bucharest and back out) without going through moldova, what about marsrutka, or maxitaxi, is there a ferry?

Hi Kevin,
Yes, it is a bit difficult to get to Constanta from Odessa. No ferry, no train, no plain, no bus. Romanians and Ukraineans are not very best friends... Are ONLY two routes : via Chisinau or via Bucharest by train, by bus or by plain.
Cheers,
Sandu

thanks, sandu, I was looking at the map, looks like there are roads and rail across the border, have you tried it? is it worth the effort in trying to get there, or just go for the easy option and go by ferry to bugaria and try the beaches Varna? kris

Your problem is how to get to Romanian border. If you cross the border in Romania, everything will be OK. Galati or Tulcea are two Romanian cities very close to Ukrainean border. From both cities you can take a train or bus to Constanta. I recommend you bus.

thanks for that Sandu, have yoiu tried this crossing? Looks like we might take the ferry to varna and see where we go from there, might be a bit simpler, we'll see:)

Cheers, Kris

RE: RE: how do you get from odessa to constanta? (and back!)

Hi! i'm interested in doing the opposite route.. Constanta to Odessa... Do you think it's also OK to go to Tulcea and find a bus to Odessa? Or it would be easier to go to Galati for a bus? How likely it is to find such a bus?? Do you think i'd have to spend a night in Tulcea or Galati?? Also, i'm wondering if this bus would go only in Ukraine because I see that there is only a tiny bit of land between Moldova and the Black sea so I don't know if there's a road there....
Many many thanx for any help!

Travel Tips for Constanta

Local Dogs

by frankcanfly

I've heard the animals can tell alot about the population. If stray dogs run from everyone and seem to live in fear, the locals don't usually respect the animals.

Here in Constanta, the dogs would just lie on the sidewalk, and you'd have to walk around them. I guess that means that people here, in general, aren't cruel to animals.

The statue of Anghel Saligny

by Fam.Rauca

This statue is placed on the shore of the Black Sea, near of the Casino Constanta, in front of the first gate of the Constanta Harbour.

Anghel Saligny was an engineer that has built many important edifices in Dobrogea.

He was the constructor of the Constanta Harbour and of the Cernavoda Bridge.

The bronze statue is the creation of the sculptor Oscar Han, and it was made in the year 1957.

In the year 1965 the statue was discovered on the shore of the sea.

*from Mangalia, to the north;
By railways: Mangalia station, on the Bucharest-Constanta-Mangalia line

Constanta - Tomis

by Fam.Rauca

Constanta has been founded by the Greeks in the 6th century BC. The City was later colonized by the Romans. Numerous archaeological finds confirm the historic past of this ancient city. This is Romania's main port to the Black Sea and in this city there are many antique buildings, museums, theatres, parks, monuments, and many others important objectives. This City is a great attraction for many tourists, which come here and admire the beauty of the old city on the Black Sea’s shore. I will try, into my Constanta page, to create a picture of this city, in order to give you an idea about some important objectives from there.

The Archaeology museum
The Natural history museum
The Romanian Navy museum

The Ethnographic and natural science museums
The Dolphin basin
The Aquarium
The famous Casino on the coast of the Black Sea
