Hunedoara

"Hunedoara"
I have only stopped here to visit the magnificent Corvin's Castle. The city itself is not much of an experience due to the fact that it was converted into an industrial town in communist times. All around this area, there are a lot of factories and steel mills.
Hunedoara's fantastic castle

This is one of the best medieval castles i have seen so far. And i love castles and have seen a fair few. But this castle impresses so much. Even though it is surrounded by industry and has to defend its boundaries every day.
I must admit that Hunedoara itself is not worth going for. If it didn't have this castle it would have been one of the least visited towns in Romania i'm sure
One amazing castle

There was just one reason why i had come to Hunedoara. And that is the huge medieval castle that is there. The town itself is not very attractive. But the castle is definitely worth a stop. Even if it is placed now on or almost on factory grounds.
The castle is very forbidding and towers over you when you cross the bridge. Unfortunately many rooms were under reconstruction (like many things in Romania. And of course with no clear date when it'll be finished). But it was nice to wander along.
In the big hall i met a musician from Hunedoara. He plays in the castle to revive a bit the sense of how it must have been. But what he really loves doing is playing jazz. He played the vibraphone and he played several brilliant songs for me. Luckily it wasn't too crowded so he could do a bit of his own (and my) liking. It was so much better then the things he played for the tourists' sake. I could have listened to him all day. But when a big group came along i thought it was time for me to move on. So i wandered through the castle some more.
But i had an appointment in Alba Iulia so after a while i left and made my way back to the hotel to get my stuff. Took the bus to Deva station and got myself on a train. An intercity this time since i didn't feel like waiting four hours. Very different and most comfortable this train was when compared with a personal. No need to bridge half a meter to get to the first step, comfortable seats an of course no stops in the middle of nothingness....Wonderfull how small things can make a person happy
