No idea what this place is called

But it is not very far from the university and it is one of the few places in Romania where i have had a decent coffee. This was at a time in my travels around Romania that i still tried coffee. I've given up on the coffee for now. I had so many bad coffee's that it wasn't worth trying anymore
Romanthic Town

"My lovely hometown"
Drobeta Turnu Severin is a town full of history and romanticism. It is a mixture of modern and antique , of industrial and fairy with elegant public gardens along the Danube and charming historical monuments and relives. It was surnamed the Roses Town and it is recognised as the most beautiful town on the Danube from Romania.
Drobeta-Turnu Severin

I wanted to make a short stop over at Drobeta-Turnu Severin between my stays in Baile Herculane and Targu Jiu. For one thing i wanted to see the Iron Gates and i had read that one can still see the remains of a pillar of a roman bridge across the Danube.
Some adventure in Drobeta-Turnu Severin!

Coming from Baile Herculane it was a very nice and pittoresque road to Drobeta-Turnu Severin. I got my first view of the Danube here. And crossed many many bridges along the Danube in order to get to Drobeta. After descending the micro bus in Drobeta i made my way a bit back. I had seen a very interesting tower. And before checking out the roman remains and getting a train or bus to Targy Ji i wanted to check out this tower. So i walked the streets of Dobreta fully packed since i had not found a convenient place to store my backpack. The tower was very impressive and i tried to find out what it was when someone asked me in english if i needed some help. I explained that i wanted to know what the tower was. It turned out it was a medieval water tower. And still in operation. Vici had just collected her children from dance class and was walking to her house. Since the kids had english classes she though it might be good for them to hear some more english and she volunteered to be my tourguide before putting me on the bus to Targu Jiu. So we had a pleasant, though heavy (for me) walk through the town. She even managed to get us into the garden of the historic museum so i could see the ruins. Unfortunately it was too late to visit the museum itself.
We all got into a taxi for the bus station. There according to the program i needed to take the bus to Targu Jiu at 18.50. She invited me to her house. It was only a few minutes away and that way i needed not wait at the station for an hour and a half. At her house she and her sister talked it over. They found it a bit scary that i would arrive in TJ at such a late hour. Her sister called someone she knew there so he could come and pick me up. In the meantime i got fed and watered till i could eat no more.
We went to the bus station on time. Wanting me to find a good seat. But we found out quickly that the bus had already left. The entire station was empty except for 2 people, chatting a bit before leaving. The time table at the bus station didn't mean a thing. The bus had left for TJ at a quarter to 6. So i was stuck in Dobreta. Vici said i could stay with them and it sounded as a very good option. So i did. And it was much fun. In the evening we saw film of the dancing of the kids. She needed to see them because they were coming with her to the UK. She and her husband studied and worked there. The kids stayed with grandma and a sister and her son. So besides them all being very busy packing (the kids and granma would come with her for 2 days to Bucarest to saygood bye) i was made to feel very welcome.
I slept in the little office of the sister. She has her own firm next to being a univerity professor.
In the morning we said goodbye and i went with the sister to the university. In class she asked who could speak english while she explained a bit about me being there.I sat there in the back row and suddenly found everybody's attention focused on me. Weird. So instead of having the first clas of the year, one of the students played tourguide for a morning. Showing me around parts of Drobeta that i hadn't seen yet. Very nice.
At 11.30 we were back at the university and we headed to the bus station. Wanting to know when the bus would leave. There was still some time and at the house we had a quick lunch. I also got food enough for 2 days (at least). At the busstation we said goodbye. In Targu Jiu i would be picked up and taken care off. So it was a very relaxing ride..
Vici and her family were such great people. They really made my day. Definitely one of the highlights so far. Thanks!
